    Oil Leak Identification Pics

Hello. I believe I have found a longstanding oil leak on my rebuilt engine. It leaks about 1 quart every 200 miles and has leaked after numerous oil changes. I have pics I took while the car was running and on jackstands (best way to look for leaks, worked like magic).

This is right as the car warmed up, you can see it seeping out of the oil housing. This oil filter is new, the gasket is new and the mating surface appeared to be perfectly clean. I somehow doubt that it is not on there tight enough because this oil leak has been happening for over 5 oil changes. Maybe I do not tighten my filters tight enough? I will check to make sure. How tight should they be? I think it was like 1/2 a turn after you get it on there good.

After about 5 minutes of idling:

I suspected there was something loose on top such as the oil passage bolt. I will check to see if its loose. But I know its not the oil sender, that was dry when I looked at it.

If that plug is loose it means the machine shop must have done it.

I just went underneath and tightened up the oil filter again; it seems to have made the leak go away. I cannot confirm that the leak is gone though.

the 3 main Leaks suspect of this particular location are:

      - the head gasket
      - the oil pressure sensor
      - the oil filter

Well I replaced the sender and used pipe thread sealant, and it as dry when I looked at it. I don't think its the head gasket there were no signs.

I was able to tighten the filter up a bit more when it was warm, when I turned the car back on the leaks seemed to go away. I have had a bad oil leak for months now though and I would like to pinpoint it. If it was the oil filter then it must mean I have not been tightening them enough.

16ft-lbs or as tight as you can hand tighten and then 7/8th of a turn., honda filters have markings on them

it could also be that the oil filter has 2 gaskets on it. Like when someone changed the oil filter they didnt check if the gasket came off with the filter and then put the new filter on with a new gasket. Ive seen them leak like that too if that makes sense
