    h22 and h22a4 block?

    Hi,

so I have a h22a in my accord. I want to boost and and I have started to collect parts (rods, sleeves, etc). But this whole process will be easier if I buy another engine and apply the parts I need to this 2nd engine. Also I can do this over a period of time and still drive my car.

I am thinking of purchasing someone's h22a4 engine. Are the blocks for the h22a and the h22a4 the same?

Will I be able to use the block (just the block) from the h22a4 (add rods, sleeves, pistons, studs, etc) and then swap the rest over from the h22a in my car now (cams, head, water pump, oil pumps, etc, etc, etc) when I am ready?

I only really need a block the way I see it so I can sleeve it and prepare it.

to my knowledge as long as it is the base model h22a4 the block is the same the h22a4 that came with the atts tranny wont bolt up to your half shaft without a adapter and mods to the half shaft....

ya skip this whole thread , after much reading the h22a4 block was from 97+ and the h22a was for the 4th gen. I'll have to find me a h22a block.

      thanks

there aint much difference, as far as in blocks

        h22a (95) closed deck, 50mm mains
h22a4 (97) open deck, 55 mm mains (need bb4 mount)

So in regards to my first post, is it possible to use the block from the h22a4 and all the rest from the h22a?

              no

95 pistons are pressed and dont have the groove for the floating pin clip

the 95 rods pressed and the 97 are free floating

also the 95 rods wont fit the 97 crank

95 crank wont fit the 97 block

              so im sorry you cant
but you can use the really really good looking aluminum oil pan the A4 brings and the head

thought the crank changed in 98, not 97. think the 97 is still a 50mm mains iirc...

                  its an obd2 thing

                  mag cams
                  bigger mains
                  floating pins
                  crank sensor
                  etc

i know all that, the crank still has 50mm mains though in 97, regardless it being an obd2 block/engine.
