    FU Photobucket!

Did they seriously just remove the option for <img> tags on free accounts?

"Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting."

Seriously, what else am I going to use photobucket for? Showing people in person my photos on their website? Not like they weren't bad enough for their ads and popups, asking you to disable ad blockers, now this shit. This totally fubar'd my whole MRT.

I may as well host these on my own server but the mess I need to now fix is almost impossible. Any other recommendations for a free site?

Crap. This is going to take a LOT of our DIY and MR pictures down

Glad I got moved off because they ate half of my photos I had uploaded.

Flickr.com is an option, beyond that I don't think there are many photo hosting sites left.

yea they just did that. Last I checked mine are all still up but it won't be long. This is going to break alot of threads across the web...really bad biz move on their part, but they definitely played the long con on everyone.

I've never liked photo bucket...the site is slow, unresponsive, just overall a really 56k experience. Now this? I'm taking all of my photos off when I get home. Damn...that really is going break a lot of build threads.

I was wondering what's up. Dead photos here and on the RSX forum

I switched from Photobucket to Flickr years ago and immediately liked Flickr's setup more.

It used to be good....like 10 years ago. Then they just started piling on ads, making the UI slow and shitty...guess that was just a buildup to this latest BS.

Yep. I'm removing my photos and deleting my account. I'll have to re-do my whole MRT and possibly start over. But you guys are right, they just kept pushing and pushing with different things to piss you off. This is the last straw for me.

Trying to think of a way to make my MRT look half presentable again.....

So I actually pulled up their terms of service. Never mind I got like 10 ads pop up and cover the browser window WHEN LOOKING AT THEIR TOS, not even content, but look at this crap. These people are nuts if they think all the regular joes are going to give them $400 a year just to link their images to other sites. I'll likely leave my content on there and not be petty by removing my content. I've got my fair share of free use out of them for years, and also clinging to the hope that they'll release their bad decision and roll back the change.

Types of Accounts, Pricing and Limits

Visiting : There is no cost to visit the Site or to register as a Member.
Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time.
Ad-free Account : The Ad-free Account offers Members the ability to use the Site without seeing any third party banner advertisements when logged into your Ad-free Account (note, viewers of your images within Photobucket will see ads unless they, too, have Plus accounts and you will continue to see Photobucket offers and announcements). This account level is available for $2.49 / month, payable by the Member on a monthly recurring basis.
Plus Account : The Plus Account offers several paid options that may give the Paying Member more storage, bandwidth, 3rd party image hosting, image linking and/or other services as outlined below. Once and during such period of time in which you subscribe to and pay for a Plus Account, we will consider you a "Paying Member." Please note that all Plus Account subscriptions are billed annually at the commencement of the service. Photobucket may also offer a monthly billing option for its Plus Accounts (see terms and restrictions, below).

Available Plus Account Plans : Photobucket offers the following Plus Account Plans:

o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

Yeah, Flickr gives you a full TB free. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for them as well.

But the silver lining to all this is that the main page finally has to be updated (it figures Raf would be the one to make a complaint thread ).

The good thing is that you can view the source of an image and still follow the path to it in your browser. Not ideal, but the images aren't necessarily gone. Inactive members that have Photobucket-hosted images won't need to come back for us to rescue important threads.

I might need to seriously start to organize an effort to consolidate images so we have proper control of them on the forum. Our bandwidth can't handle hosting them on our server, but perhaps it's time we devised a way to collect images and re-host them on a single hosting account.
It'll likely take months of hard work to relocate images and redirect image tags, and we'd need a system to keep things organized (especially if we ever need to move the image cache!) I have some ideas, but I'll need a few people that are willing to lend a hand.
Some research is necessary first, just to be sure we go in the best possible direction.

I'm hoping they rescind this as well (or at least bring the price down to where it is reasonable), but in the mean time is Flickr the best place to go?

Flickr seems to be the next big one. Unfortunately, they could also be the next to do something like this, too.

I'm sure the image hosting sites are hurting thanks to things like Facebook and Instagram. They're likely getting to be used for little more than hotlinked image hosting. Someone there just had the great idea to monetize that usage, seeing as it seems to be all people want from them! Linking to Facebook or Instagram photos only works for a short time, then the links break (I've posted many a Facebook picture here, only to have it disappear...)

IMGUR seems to be the big thing on Reddit. I don't know if they allow hot-linking.
