ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Trying to fit new ignition module 1993 Honda Accord

Trying to fit new ignition module to my 1993 Honda Accord 2.0 SE Auto.
Have located the correct part - E12-1117A.
The module has a loop that goes over the rota arm. Can't see how to remove a part on the rota arm to slide the module out? Please see pic.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

What does your module look like? Your parts may differ from US spec, but the module should be located under the indicated area in the picture. You shouldn’t need to remove that part. There should be two screws at the back of the module.

edit: Seems autozone.com has instructions on how to replace this! https://www.autozone.com/repairguide...00c1528005f3cb
Sound like the "roll pin" and the rest of the reluctor just pry off?

This is my first time seeing (or hearing) about these unique insides of a 2.0 distributor. Look at his crazy ignitor unit!

This is what the USDM modules look like:

          You’re the man, Mike!
I was looking to see if I could find non-US diagrams, and I had no luck!

            Hi all and thanks!

My Accord has a carburetor, and seems to use a different ignitor.
Looking at the schematic drawing (thanks!) it is the reluctor and pin I need to remove, so the ignitor module can be removed. The 'partsdemon' image of the module is exactly the same as the one I have just purchased. Looks like I carefully prise off reluctor with two flat end screwdrivers, taking care not to lose the pin. Will leave to soak in WD40 overnight. Just pushes back on I guess?

            Thanks again - Paul

It sounds like the reason it "wraps around" the rota arm / center stem of the distributor is because it is not only the ignitor unit - it also has a built-in magnetic pickup coil.

Yes, you should be able to pry it off, and push it back on. Be careful to take note of the "depth" it is installed, by measuring gaps/spacing, to be sure it is installed into the exact same spot.

Reading the notes on autozone.com it also sounds like the screws/hardware holding it together are special. I think this is why the screws in your original picture are different colors - take note of which one goes where! Here's the text from autozone:
Note the position of the retaining screws; one is diamagnetic and must be reinstalled in the original location.
              Good luck, Paul!

                Hi all,

I used a small gear puller to remove the reluctor, please see pic. Worked a treat too.

Have fitted the new ignition module, but still won't fire up..

Will have a word with the auto electrician who diagnosed the problem.

                All the best, Paul

what was the original problem that you had the electrician diagnosing? I assume a crank but no start issue from your last post. What else have you tried/replaced recently to get this to run? Please give some more info on the situation.

Hi and thanks for your enquiry.
The car just won't start. Cranks over fine, but will not fire. A local garage gave up after 4 months trying to locate the problem, and towed it back home.
A local mobile auto electronics diagnostics guy checked it over and said it was the ignitor module. Have replaced but still no good. Looking at the coil next. Have bought an ancient but good quality SOAR multimeter on eBay for £4. Will try and test the coil. I understand the range is - Primary circuit 0.6-0.8 ohms and Secondary circuit 12-20 k ohms. This is all new to me..
                    All the best - Paul

                      Hi all,
Checked the coil with a multimeter. I understand that the range should be Primary circuit 0.6 - 0.8 ohms. Secondary circuit 12 - 20 k ohms.

My coil is reading Primary 0.0 and Secondary 12.5.

I guess the primary circuit has failed. Can get a coil cheap enough, will give that a try.

                      Cheers, Paul

Back up and running! It was the coil, a simple and cheap fix in the end.
Runs like a bird... A couple of new tyres, and then back on the road.

Thanks again for all your help.
