temperature gauge staying on cold.

My temp gauge will only go up a qtr of the way when im stopped. When I get on the freeway it will stay all the way down or even below the Cold. Just recently started doing this, before it would stay at half way like normal, would changing the thermostat fix the problem?

Sounds like a slow opening thermostat.

the "coolant temperature gauge sender" may be faulty. its what sends the signal for the needle position in the gauge cluster.

Sounds like you either don't have a thermostat in the car or its stuck open.

Are You change thermostat?
Other question did You do something with gouges? i have o posit problem where all the time gouge for water temp show max reason was damaged one very thin electrical cable on gouge.

When You tighten or untighten must be very careful with screw keeping gouge on electrical plate..

when driving down the freeway if your temp is sitting on cold and the heater is really hot then you might be looking at something electrical. if the heater sucks then thermostat is bad.
