ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

    Cherry picker question important.

Ready to get the car in the air but we ran into a problem.

Our 25 year old jack has finally started losing pressure. So, we went to advance and purchased a 2.5 ton jack.....It was the worst thing we have ever bought concerning automobiles ever. It was a joke, we needed to put jack-stands under the car and the jack didn't even get the stock steelies an inch above the ground so my husband went and got his money back pledging to never buy autocraft again. He did not want to go and get 180 dollar jack right now, seeing as how he thinks he can fix the old one and due to the fact we gotta go 2 towns over. But he remembered when we pulled our second H out of a wrecked prelude we had his giant overkill cherry-picker, and i mean this thing is huge. The prelude was wrecked in the front so the motor got stuck and we ended up accidentally picking the whole car with the cherry-picker.

So, his reasoning is that we might be able to jack/lift the front end high enough to put the jack-stands under it with the cherry-picker. he knows it can lift it, but my question is where?

If i put the bumper support back on can we put the hook close to it and wrap chain around the bumper support and lift it there? can it hold that? Or is there a better place to do this at?

Just leave the motor mounts on the motor and pull the motor up.

    But I don't know.

I get most of my occassional use tools from Harbor freight. I have a jack from them I got for $78. Its low and works well.

If that's one of the metal USDM bumpers then you should be able to lift using it. I'd see if you can pick on the front subframe first though.

You can't rationalize cars like these. They're not something you buy with your head, you buy them with your heart because you love them, and who can explain love?

if you leave the motor mounts in, there should be two spots on the block that have brackets with spots that look like hooks can go in there you can try lifting from there and it should work without a problem

They are fiberglass and I wouldn't lift from there.

I'd attach chains to the front crossmember thru the engine bay and lift from there

a cheery picker as in the platforms that you stand on high in the air?

you should NOT be using one of those to lift an engine let alone a car. cheery pickers dont have a high weight tolerance and are not designed for what your trying to use it for

I though this as well but i had one bend before, i suppose i can stress test it and if it starts to go, ill use the motor.

I would do what accrdwgnguy suggested. If you notice @ the end of the engine cross beam (connects fr and rr xmembers) there's that welded loop, that is the center jacking point for the front of the car. Meaning, you put a floor jack on that loop and you lift the entire front of the car all at once. You could certainly do the same from the top, maybe try to spread the load out w/ a block of wood or something so it's not so concentrated.

"Cherry picker" is another term for an engine hoist.

Attach the ends of the chain to the tow hooks on each end of the crossmember. Shouldn't be an issue.

We got the car in the air yesterday. We tripled the $16 tow rope around the bumper mounts and she came right up. So, she's on jack stands now!
