ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Intermittent CEL on bumps

Hey guys, recently my cb has been throwing up a CEL intermittently. When I turn off the car, it doesn't reappear immediately but comes back after some time (a few days) usually when driving over some harsher bumps. Anyone got a clue?

What is the CEL for? I would start there and find possible solutions, maybe a plug or connector is loose and gets jiggled when going over bumps.

There are some ECM that have a small round window with a light that flashes, you simply count the flashes with pauses for double digit numbers. The secong option is to jump the blue plug under the kickpanel plastic using either a female connector setup on a small wire, paperclip or a screwdriver and count the flashes from the check engine light on the dash using the same method as above.

giving you a link for the second method and correct way of reading the flashing

The method and codes can be found in the thread at the top of this section marked "READ HERE FIRST" (nobody ever does, despite that...)

I'm quite certain that the culprit is a loose wire somewhere. Pull the code and it should point you right at the problem. It COULD be a loose connection in the harness going to the ECU as well (or even a loose pin in the ECU.) Regardless, this shouldn't be too difficult to track down.

Thanks for the tips @deevergote @crankshaft I'm relatively new to this site even though I've been a member for a year now. My cb has basically stayed stock and worry-free since I bought it a year ago, but now I've got some opportunities to learn and modify so I'm all over them. Did I mention I'm an electrical systems noob?

I've been working on CB7s for 15+ years now, and I'm still an electrical systems noob!

Pull those codes (it's REALLY easy), and we can narrow it down. Then, if it's not a legitimately faulty part, inspect the wires going to the ECU and the part in question for damage. If no obvious damage is seen, it might be time to learn how to use a multimeter.
