EXT: removing/ replacing radiator core support

So to begin I am not responsible if you mess up the front off your car

    Tools needed:
    chisel
    spot weld remover drill bit
    a big hammer
    drill
    some gloves

First you need to rmove fenders and front bumper headlights and horn. There should be a DIY on here some where for it.

Now take your spot weld remover drill bit and and drill out all the spot welds you don't wanna go all the way through. That way you leave something to weld on to later. I will count the number off spot welds tomorrow for a exact number. Were I have circled is were you wanna drill at. You will see the dimples

Now you want to start from the top and go down. So take your chisle and knock up the lip on the corner up under the fender thats were you wanna start to get it off. Were the red arrows are is were you wanna knock up.

Then keep working your way down and you will catch on

Will update when I have it weled on

Good write up. Did this to my car when I first got it. I didn't have to take the fenders off though.
We are all ricers, it just depends what flavor rice you are.

Minitrucker by heart, CB7tuner by coincidence.

How did you get the lip from under the fender. But mine was already off anyways I was in the middle off a wire tuck.

I think I just took out that first fender bolt to get it off. Mine isn't perfectly put back together yet though because when I did this I had a shitty HF welder, so there's a series of bolts holding it on until I get around to tearing it down again and welding it back up.

Great DIY. Definetly come in handy for those of us unfortunate enough to wreck our cars.

Stupid question....is there a way to reinstall the core support without welding?

Yea you can use screws not the safest method but I have seen people do it.

Thanks TracieS for this DIY. This will definitely help me this weekend on my CD5.
Question: What type of spot weld remover drill bit did you use?

It was just a little cheap set from northern tool. But I recommend a set from harbor freight or just dont buy the 10 dollar set it doesnt hold up to drilling out a lot of welds.

I appreciate the reply. The only one I see from harbor freight is this one:

                          http://www.harborfreight.com/3-8-eig...ter-95343.html

                          Will that be sufficient?
