Raspy exhaust sound after header install

I just installed my DNA header...before everyone says that DNA headers are crap..I'm on a super tight budget and couldn't find a a4 exhaust manifold at any junk yards around me and no luck on Craigslist... All i have done to the motor is short ram intake. My exhaust is oem. Before installing the header i soaked every nut and bolt in PB blaster 3 times. Every thing came off without any issues. When installing the furthest most left exhaust manifold bolt broke in the head. Every other bolt is fine and tight. I used copper gasket spray and used a REM flex gasket between the header and downpipe without the copper gasket spray. Every other surface had the spray on it. Hopefully within the next couple months I'm going to put 2.5" piping with I'm thinking a magnaflow muffler. I was quoted this setup for $350. I don't mind saving a little more to eliminate any and all raspiness. Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed. I do plan on upgrading the header eventually. Hopefully sooner then later. Thank you in advance for your help.

Once you put a resonator in your system it should get rid of most if not all of the rasp.

That's what I'm going to get with 2.25 or 2.5 piping

I have an eBay exhuast, with a magnaflow high-flow cat, and muffler, and I had rasp. Welding on a long red glass pack got rid of the rasp, and made the exhaust sound warmer.

If I were to do it again I would buy a OBX header, and a Yonaka exhaust.

I thought about the yonaka exhaust but for close to the same amount of money i can have a custom vibrant exhaust...not a knock off apexi ws2. Also the yonaka will probably develop rasp sooner from the muffler and resonator deteriorating.

Just remember OP, you pay for what you get. If the exhaust you choose sounds good...what about in a year or two. If it sounds like ass after a while of being on the car, that defeats the purpose of buying that exhaust.

My 2012 civic si has a full race 3in catless DP and full race 3in catback. 20k+ miles later it still sounds DEEP and no rasp...just saying

a lot of people have issues with Yonaka quality going to sh*t at around 2 years. That's what you get for buying a cheap replica part. Risk of the quality sucking. Better off just buying a quality muffler the first time, even if it is used. There are lots of options:

            Magnaflow
            Apexi WS2
            Greddy Evo
            Greddy SP
            Thermal R&D

I didn't know that it was a knock-off Apexi Ws2, haha. I haven't owned a Yonaka anything before, I have a friend (BreckAConner) that has that on his Cb7, and I really liked how it sounded. I can't comment on the durability though, LOL.

How much would a similar Vibrant set-up cost?

I tried several mufflers in my build to quiet down the drone at cruise without losing power. The best, by far - and the cheapest - was a Ford Mustang GT OEM muffler. A lot of the GT buyers replace their mufflers soon after they buy the vehicle, so you can get an OEM GT muffler for $40-$50 with only a couple hundred miles on it. It (along with a resonator) eliminated the drone at cruise, but it opens up at higher rpm. Nice sound, little power loss. Just be aware that it is 2.5" inlet and outlet. And make sure you get one from the newer GTs with 400 hp.

Wow i didn't even know i had so many replies. I need to get notifications... I feel like a idiot...lol... So when i was installing my aluminum rear lca's i hit my muffler with the breaker bar to see how bad the muffler was and it literally broke off of the exhaust pipe....guess it was real bad... I also developed a leak on the downpipe to to my stupidity installing the gasket. I tried to tighten the bolts a little more and snapped one off. I decided to leave the exhaust to the exhaust specialists. So i got quoted $250 to fix the header. They said that they won't do anything without fixing the snapped bolt in the head. That combined with the other snapped bolt on the downpipe and having to notch the cross member to make the header fit right is gonna cost just as much as buying a higher quality header. Lesson learned... Thanks to everyone that replied. I'm gonna look in to the mustang oem exhaust. I'm definitely gonna use a resonator if i go with magnaflow. Also my goal is better gas mileage and a little more get up.

I just got my car back from the exhaust shop. They fixed the header and notched the cross member to give the downpipe more clearance. They cut the back of my cat off, installed a 24" resonator, 2.25 exhaust tubing, magnaflow muffler and a 2.5 exhaust tip. I didn't want any chrome on the tip so they painted it cast color and heat treated it for free. I'm super happy with the sound. Its not loud at all. Its got a deep rumble with no rasp and looks amazing.

That sounds exactly like what I did to mine!

I still have a magnaflow cat though.

Can we get some exhaust sound videos?

Yes you can. I just need to import them to photo bucket. Is there an easier way?

Photobucket is easy ... fast ... I dunno about videos tho
I'd love to know what you spent, (if you don't mind me asking) I'm about to get rid of my magnaflow muff and replace the TWO resonators ...

I spent $560 i paid cash so no tax. The bends are all smooth. Like i said they notched my cross member to make the cheap dna header fit. They had to fix a broke stud inn my head. Actually they replaced all the studs since i always use this shop. I also broke a bolt that connected my header to the downpipe. They cut the back of the cat tip improve the flow. They used oem gaskets. I was gonna go with 2.5" piping but I'm not trying to build this motor. I'm shooting for a mild build to increase gas mileage and give it a little more uuummph. The tip ran me $28. Also like i said earlier i don't want anything flashy so i had the tip painted and heattreated. The exhaust would have only ran me 80 but since they had to fix that header it increased the price quite a bit. I hope this helps you and I would recommend this setup for anybody that is looking for a deep tone with no raspiness what so ever and definitely improve flow.
