No prob brsteinbach, thank's for showing love. I'm in the process of locking in a shop to install my suspension upgrade package. Then comes a fun power upgrade project that I will work on until I get it just right .

around my parts its known as a Honda knocker, for all the assorted Honda knocks you need too make the suspension fall apart at your feet.

Well, it's all of that stuff in those pics really, and the bushings come first. I've never done suspension before, so I am really afraid of screwing something up with my coilovers and the bushings.

I've looked through the DIYs before, and people are quite creative in finding ways to remove those bushings. I have the sockets, but I need a rubber tip hammer and I also don't have a blow torch in case some leave some rubber behind. I watched Geoff M's ball joint replacement video, and I'm just afraid of breaking something releasing those things. As far as the coilovers, I need a corner weight service done after they are in, and I don't know if the local alignment shops (midas) do corner weight services.

Maybe I'm just too afraid and I need to get over it. I just never approach my car unless I know exactly what I'm doing.

It's understandable to be nervous, hell I haven't done bushings on my car except the rear lower shock bushings cause the bolt broke off and seized in there. But be carefully of those rear lower shock bolts of breaking off, it is well known in the Honda Comunity.

This is the perfect learning opportunity! The coilovers are straightforward. The ball joints will probably be the hardest without a press, but still possible. I did my bushings with a hammer and the ball joint press tool from AutoZone.

The rear uca will bend if you aren't careful. Everything else can be handled without worry

If your worried about bending or breaking any of the pieces, burning out the rubber with a propane torch and using a metal saw of your choice too cut through the casing and then it pops out.

on a side note the rear upper control arm from the TL is cast steel not stamped and is a direct fit, also rear lowers on wagons are also cast steel, with both those you have a ultra stiff rear end, no fear of bending control arms.

Good info. Didn't know the rear uca from the TL fit.

Hehehe, it's not all here yet. That was supposed to be a secret! Don't tell them about the other thing I just bought last night .

                        --------------------------------

As far as the ball joints, I will get a press, or at least rent one from the AutoZone that's about a half mile from my house. I'll have to just go slowly with those bolts in the bushings and bite the bullet to get a torch. I don't want to seize or break off any bolts. I'll have the PB Blaster ready.

The rental tool make easy work of the ball joints.

                          REMOVAL

                          INSTALL

And I've seen them used to do the upper joints as well

Wow, thanks, tishock, for the breakdown on how to use the tool. After talking with all you guys, I feel more confident in doing these on my own without a shop. They haven't gotten back to me anyway.

Also the tool on the left will make separating ball joints from control arms way easier. I've never had luck just using a big ass hammer for them.

                                Performance Upgrade Teaser

Well, now that school is started and I am teaching full time again, the time to head to the strip and race has dramatically decreased. However, the time to be at home assembling parts and wrenching has effectively increased (too tired to go driving everywhere, so I stay at home after work more). This gives me more time to work on something involved with these teaser pics.
