    Crank Pulley Bolt Issue

As a lot of you know my f22a1 took a shit right after I lost my job. So I bought a replacement f22b2 and swapped it in. For what ever reason the idiot who had the motor before me took out the crank pulley bolt leaving me without one. So a buddy of mine ended up helping me out and grabing one for me from the junk yard off a f22b2 and even tested it on other f22b2 motors to be positive it would fit.

Well, my father and myself are out wrenching the car doing the last little things to it to get it ready for my commute to and from work. We go to torque the crank pulley bolt in and all thats happening is the crank turns. No biggie i go put the car in gear and hold my foot on the brake while my dad torques it in. Nothing.

We pull it back out and the end of the bolt is chewed up and not the same size as the rest of it I believe it could still work and what not just I am wondering if for some reason it doesnt have an h22 crank pulley or a f22a crank pulley or some type of different pulley causing it to do this to the threads. That or me being a noob am doing something stupid to mess it up like this.

Point being the thing is basically finished and its just this one thing stopping me and i would hate for one bolt to cause all the time effort and money behind this car to be a waste. with that being said does anyone have any insight on what is causing this? Or would anyone have the thread size for a f22b2 crank pulley bolt? Thank you all in advanced.

Sounds like a stripped bolt. If so, replace with a new or good used one. Differences do exist between the crank pulley for an H versus an F, but the bolt itself remains the same (I think).

Hopefully no damange was done to the threads on the crank.

It wasnt stripped when i got it. It was messed up after we gave up on trying to get the bolt in. I actually think damage is already done to the threads inside the crank because 2 other bolts failed to work as well.

Well damn. Sounds like you may have a little more work to do now.

What about re-chasing the threads, if that's possible on the crank?

Get something long and skinny and see how far you can get it to go down the threaded hole. There may be a broken bolt in there.

I was thinking about that and told it couldnt be done or wasnt worth it by a few people but then the mechanic at my job today told me the pulley could just be welded on but that seems like kind of a hack job imo. But he is ASE certified...I dont even know

It could be. I would find an iron washer and have it drilled to be the exact size of the crank snout and notched for the key. Then weld it on. This is not a ghetto way to do it but you can forget about using the bottom end on it in the future for anything. Also, timing jobs are going to be impossible. But if you need it now, then it might be the ticket.

The puts the build route up in the air even more. Now at the risk of being flamed I know frankenstein g22 builds are frowned upon but from what i read the b2 block is perfect for a g22 setup with a h22 head. With that being said i was considering that but with this crank pulley issue I could use this temporarily and rebuild my a1 in the process. I dont know there is a lot to think about. Now that I am working again I have had less time to work the on cb so this weekend myself my dad my co worker and a friend of mine are all looking at it. So a solution will be made this weekend. Also, my friend has my a1 at his house and has found all the rebuild stuff online and we were even talking about aftermarket internals for more power but like i said it will all be determined this weekend.

Before you go slapping an H22A head on your 85mm block, read this.
