    Ek speedometer issue

I am having problems with the accuracy of the speedo on my 2000 civic ex. I have SI rims on it and the tires that where on it where 185 60 15. I looked up and found that that they take 195 55 15s and I'm pretty sure that's right so I bought a set of 4 new tires. My speedometer is off by around 5 mph. I have searched civic forums and couldn't find much. Some people who where having the same issue posted and people thought it was a bad cluster and somone said take the needle and using gps to figur out your speed stick it back on in the right position. Replacing the speedo sounds like the most logical option but I have never heard of any speedo problems with cb7s if you have the right size tire and because everyone is saying to replace the cluster on civic forums I wonder why cb7s won't have cluster issues but Ek will.

    Wrong section sir.

But, have you had any issues with your Vehicle Speed Sensor? I just replaced
the VSS on my D16Y8 because it was not working at all.

I have heard though that sometimes different sized tires from the OEM will
    give a different MPH reading.

5 MPH off isn't too far off anyway.
    Keep Pushing..

My understanding is speed sensors work of or they don't.
I went out of my way to buy 4 brand new tires to fix the issue becuase the car had 185 60 15. So I put the stock 195 55 15 tires and that didn't fix it. I think it's my cluster but I wanted a second opinion before I bought a cluster and swapped the speedo out of it into mine.
I have bigger issues with that car now. I need to rebuild the engine...
When there are photo radar cameras where you live and you like to go 5 over its nice to have a accurate speedometer. And the faster i go the more it's off so it can be an issue.
I am having the same issue with my new SE but it's not as bad. All of my other cb7s speedometer have been right on or with in 2mph no matter how fast I go

Since I made this thread I have done a B series swap on it and replaced the spedometer and it is still off the same, any ideas? Like I said I'm pretty sure I'm running the right tire size and why will two clusters be off by the same speed, I could see having one cluster that is off but not too
Is there any way that a ex will have an overall taller tire size then an SI?

2 of my Odysseys with stock tires and wheels was off by 2/3 mph. My recent Odyssey I just put some 16in Chrysler wheels on it because they had new tires and it actually fixed my speedo.

Try this, I had the same problem with my speedo on the CB because I moved the needle to far forward when painting them. I can only hope this is the same for the civic.

          1. Take the cover off the cluster, leave it off for when your driving.

          2. Use your GPS or OBD Reader to find your actual speed.

          3. Now at a stop, move the needle as far as it will go until without forcing it.

          4. Force it forward just a bit, turn it back around test your speed again.

I hope this makes since, I can try to show you with a video otherwise if this doesn't make sense.

The speedo on my civic is right when I am going slow and the faster i go the more it gets off so I dont think it's a matter of moving the needle to make it right at one speed. It seems like the tires are to small but I bought the right size for my Si rims.

Oh I got you now, I thought you meant it was off by 5mph all the time. That's a little tricky I must say. I had that problem when I switched my gauge from 130 to 140mph, but at that point it was the actual cluster itself. The CB7 and CB9 Cluster are different, so you can't just swap the gauges.

Anyways, if it's the stock cluster, it makes me wonder why the speed starts to get off at a higher speed besides what you mentioned before with tires and wheels??

like I said if my civic was a si not an ex it would have those rims on it and the si calls for 195-55-15 so that's what I bought. is there any chance a si will have a smaller overall tire than an ex?
