I remember using the paper gasket the first time I ever did this job. I remember them leaking after not too long. Had to take it all back apart and Hondabond it. I've always Hondabonded the rear plate and the oil pump to the block since that incident.

I've only done two clutch replacements on our cars. Both times I reused the original clutch/flywheel hardware, (bolts), with no thread locker and just torqued to spec. I've experienced no problems.
As for the rear main seal housing, I'll second using the Hondabond and chunk that paper gasket.
That housing only requires clean surfaces and a sealer.

I received my new clutch, pressure plate, and rubber clutch line the other day. I'll be installing these along with a new clutch slave and master next week.

Nice progress and attention to detail on the rear side of the engine. That clutch was knarfed! Exedy is where it is at!

          BTW, what is a fleek?

Thanks af. That word is part of a phrase kids were using g a little while back when they wanted to say something was cool. They'd say something was "on fleek " lol.

About the car, it's moving right along. Just a few more parts to collect.

So now that Christmas bills are over and past me, I've started buying more parts. Man, it's like the more I wait, the more I see wrong and have to fix. You know how it is.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a clipped post I saw elsewhere in the brake rotor-over-hub thread in case anyone else has been thinking of upgrading their brakes.

I already have a set of new CB7 calipers, so I'll be using Acura CL 2.3 hubs, bearings and rotors with the stock calipers and EBC black pads in line with what aero365 did. I'll be getting the calipers powdercoated here soon.

Until the rest of my parts arrive, I'm going to try and change out the power steering rack first. Stay tuned for that.

                What's up guys!

So yesterday I finally got around to replacing the steering rack with a unit remanufactured by Honda. I had no idea Honda ever did such a thing, but it gives me way more confidence in this repair than picking up a unit from the local parts store. A big thanks goes out to Fleetwood for selling me his unit. I also just called a dealer that advertises the remanu'ed parts, and confirmed they no longer offer racks.

Oh boy, was this thing was leaking everywhere. For the record I was not heavy-handed getting it removed. Both boots were already ripped up pretty good.

I think the cable reel may have been bad, as the horn only worked intermittently. Since I had to have the wheel off to replace the reel, I took the opportunity to replace the wheel with a nice minty one. My original was starting to separate at the top, and the horn buttons were worn off.
                Out with the old:

And in with the new. This wheel supposedly came from a car with 86K miles on it. I believe it.

Unfortunately the cruise control buttons are all worn away, so I'm looking for some of those too.

Tomorrow I'm shooting to get the clutch slave and rubber line replaced, as well as installing my new clutch and refaced pressure plate. If I have time I'm going to finish up the timing belt side of things.

You're welcome for the rack, I bought them when I realized they were available and I could get them for about the same price as buying all the Honda seals, boots, and inner tie rod ends to rebuild one myself; I have one more for Ruby. First though, my clutch is slipping after only about 74,000 miles - I usually get 150k+.

Hang on to the old rack, you can get a rebuild kit and keep it as a spare just in case (or for another vehicle).

So u/Dreamability came over to help me disassemble my fogs and I'm very happy with their current condition. Other than a little spotting on the main body of the reflector, there an eensy teensy bit of surface rust on the outer pieces. I sanded the long flat pieces on both reflectors and painted them with some chrome paint. I think they look a lot better now. Not perfect, but much better.

The original chrome isn't perfect, but it's still so nice I don't want to cover it all up with paint. If they were already bad, sure. But these are way too nice.

We also took to the lenses with some polish to take out the big imperfections, which aren't many. I'm thinking I may cover them in yellow vinyl.

I would've finished up the timing belt last night, but I'd misplaced the special shouldered bolts for the covers, DOH! No big deal, I figured I'd get to organizing and find them. Which I did, after I'd already thrown in the towel and changed out of my coveralls.

I hope to button this up today, get this side motor mount in, swap out the clutch slave and who knows what else.

I finished up the timing belt yesterday with a little mess up on my part.

I've been working from a '91 Honda Service Manual (maybe the '92 is different?), from which I found TDC on the compression stroke using this page:

You can see they mention a straight line as being the TDC indicator on 5spd cars. Here's mine:

It turns out that this is NOT TDC for my motor. I verified that it was not by putting a long screwdriver down the #1 cylinder's hole and watching it's movement, and observing when the tool quit moving up and started its way down. That point can be observed when the flywheel mark that looks like a "T" is lined up (or what the manual states is auto trannys):

In any case, it's done. I've gotten the front dogbone replaced, and the new clutch/resurfaced pressure plate are in:

I'm going to clean up the alternator and get that installed hopefully tomorrow.

I got some more cleaning done today. Here's an ex-plerrded view of the alternator.

I think really needed to take it this far apart to get the case super clean considering all the little nooks and crannies in the outer case. But as luck would have it, I'm glad I did because one of the bearings has run dry and is starting to make noise.

At least I can put this to the side while I work on other things. Does anyone know the best way to clean the copper coil? Not the armature, but the wound copper that the armature spins inside.

                            Trans is back in

Man, this thing was a bear to get back in. So awkward and oddly balanced. Maybe I just haven't done enough of them to really have the hang of it. But after a couple hours and a pair of helping hands, I was able to get it attached and most of the fasteners snugged down.

Nope you are correct, putting the tranny in is a pain. I would rather pull an engine then pull just a tranny out. It’s very awkward and getting it just right takes some finesse.

Good job getting the trans back in! The mechanical work you've put in is really well done.

I once tried to install a trans with the engine still mounted in the car. I gave that up and just took the engine out and mated them back together.
