    Machine Shop Did this

    Hey guys, good day.
I just got my block back from the machine shop for a 0.50mm bore job. This is what I noticed when I looked at it.

I need to know if I should be concerned.

    Thanks.

Did you inspect that block while at the shop with one of their workers around? If they damaged the block like that i'd take it back.

So do you really think that this will effect the performance? That's all I want to know. And no I did not inspect the block at the shop. Even If I "take it back", what can I expect from them, its not like they're gonna give me another block.

I want to know if this is going to effect the performance of the machine.

honestly i couldn't tell you. I've never taken my engine apart beyond the scope of a VC gasket. I'd just call them back and tell them that you noticed that there was a big chunk of metal missing and from what area of the engine block that you had done there, i can't tell from the picture, and see what their policy is about damages like that. The worst they can do is hang up on you.

They're closed now. Yeah, you're probably not going to know if this is a problem or not, lol, but thanks anyway for your input.

It doesn't seem like a bad gash really. Its location and size doesn't seem like it will effect performance. But I want someone else to chime in on this.

I can't tell what part of the block that is..... If it is a mating surface that requires any sort of specified clearance you should have it looked at. If it is just a part that has been machined to make room then I wouldn't worry about it.

Is that at the bottom of the cylinder bore? Below the steel sleeve?

Is so, just file it down a little and smooth it out. The piston wont travel that low in the block.

Yeah, that's where it is, below the steel sleeve, its a little flange at the bottom, there are two of them for each cylinder. I did smooth it out, it doesn't seem like a problem, esp. now that you mention it.

For those who don't know what i'm talking about, here is better pic. They are the metal things on the bottom:

Yeah that won't cause any issues. Even if you hadn't smoothed it out.

Mmmmk, great, thanks. btw this is my first ever rebuild, do you have any pointers? Like, I would like to know what you think is the hardest part of rebuilding an engine. The easy parts I can handle no problem, I have the official manual and more than enough videos on my computer.

Personally, I think putting all the accessories and wiring harness back on would rank up there with number 1, followed by the motor mounts. Remembering how everything goes back on is all i'm a bit concerned about.
