ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I stopped by the shop on my lunchbreak, but my friend wasn't there. I was hoping to get some finished shots, and maybe even reinstall the headliner, but I guess maybe next week. Keep posted, I know it's been a long, long process, but my goal is to have it completed by April 1st.

We scrubbed it reall good with isopropyl alcohol, wiped it dry with paper towels, and air dried it with a blowgun. Then we used a spray glue (not sure exactly which kind, but the other guy there said it looked and smelled like the industrial stuff used to apply rubber roofs). First application was applied side to side and allowed to tack up. Second coat was applied lenthwise and allowed to tack up. Then the suede was sprayed moderately, and once that started to tack up we streatched it on and pressed it into all the contours.

Picked up the headliner today, it looks awesome. I installed it back in my car, but dropped the ball and didn't get a pic. I'll get one soon.

im thinkin about doin my headliner because i wanna put in some map lights along with my interior project

Is the suede easy to stretch to the different shapes of the headliner?

also hows the price? alot more then regular vinyl or what?

You can get backed, and non-backed Alcantara suede. non-backed is good for stretching, and stretches pretty well. The going rate for Alcantara suede right now I think is $105/yd. A yard is 3'x55" or so. The 55" length is enough to reach from the front of the headliner to the back, but just to be safe you would need 2yds. Occasionally you can find Alcantara on ebay, it's cheaper if you get an end roll, but the quality may be less. Other than that, the place my friend gets it from is in Florida. They buy it direct from Japan and only sell to dealers. That's why it's harder to find, and what I've found is always end roll material.

If you like the suede look but don't wanna drop the dough, look into microfiber. It's much cheaper, stretches nicely, and looks good too.

This is the guy I know of that has the end roll material for sale. you'd have to ask about the backing though:

Never bought from this seller, but they are the closest I've come to being able to buy Alcantara online by the yard.

I pulled my car out of storage today and dropped it off over at my friend's shop. Should have some updates with pics by early next week, maybe by end of this weekend, we'll see.

here's a couple pics I took with my phone this afternoon. Pics are kinda dark, but updates none the less

I'll be taking the dome light back out to paint the housing dark gray. Any other plastic parts that can't be wrapped in suede will be done in dark gray too. Not looking for much contrast between colors...
