My model '92 Honda Accord 2.0 is behaving strange in the morning when i drive to work. When the engine goes from cold to hot, just about when it reaches normal temperature level (around 60% i guess), the engine starts to struggle pretty hard with keeping the revs up. I'm not really good with cars, but it feels to me as if the engine is not getting enough choke. To keep it running I have to push the gas pedal down so the my automatic shifts to 3rd or 2nd. After driving for 3-4 miles like this, the problem goes away and it runs normal. If I pull over, stop the engine and start it again the problem goes away faster, even though it can some times be hard to get it started again at this point. When the engine is cold it always starts on the first try.
Oddly this problem started after I did a full oil change (oil and filter). I changed to 10W40 semi-synthetic, but I don't think this has any connection to the problem above...?
A friend suggested that it could be a problem with the automatic choke. That a temperature sensor in it is malfuctioning perhaps.
Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? Is it expensive to fix/possible to do yourself? (I am not very skilled with engines).
Any help is most appreciated!
