There are lots of club racing organizations. And there is one called NASA, Im a member and just got back from the first event of the nasa south east 2009 racing season.

For 2009 I will be racing in the Honda Challenge H2 class

here is my in car video from this events sunday race

only one other car in my class, and you see him in the civic right after the restart. I took overall poll and overall win for the small bore race group even though there was a split start with the spec miata class taking the first green flag.

I didnt win any money this weekend just took home a small wall plaque trophy. We all race for the fun, and while there are sponsorship opportunities they are very few payed racing drivers. Most like me pay their own way, some drivers get lots of free parts or free service, a few have a free ride, and the couple chosen ones that met the right people at the right time get paid to race.
    1990 accord Honda-Challenge, H22 powered

Read the sticky for more information:

But really, the minimum that has to be done is a full roll cage, safety harnesses, and fire extinguisher securely mounted.

My smart ass answer to the OP is:

The sand wedge is winning! Sorry, had to.
lol ok so i take it that club racing is for assholes with more money than brains, much like golf.
