ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    CV AXLE replacement questions

    Hey Guys,

I'm a long time lurker. I own a 91 auto cb7 lx. My first and only car so far and I got her off a friend and all i had to do was swap out the TCU cause it was fried.

It's pretty much stock and i have only done minor repairs when they come up. a few years ago I had to swap out my driver side CV axle due to a crack on it and it started clicking as i was driving.

I want to swap out the passenger side CV axle now but I can't find any re-manufactured ones at autozone, or advanced. I dont have abs so i figured I had to get re-manufactured because all the new ones come with that abs ring and i don't think it will fit.

Do you guys recommend me looking anywhere for it?

You can run an ABS ring in a car without ABS.

    And welcome!

      Thank you!

Wont the abs ring cause fitment issue with the disks or not at all?

        No problem!

Nope. Most remanufacturers install the ABS ring regardless because it won't interfere with anything on a non-ABS car. It's for simplicity.

Personally, I've installed ABS ringed CV shafts on probably 3 to 5 non-ABS CB7's. You are good to go!

awesome Thank you very much dude!

Do you have any recommended places for a CV Shaft? or going with like a duralast is fine?

Trying to get everything before this quarantine is over.

Personally I go through RockAuto however locally I prefer Autozone. That's completely my preference though. Autozone (Duralast) used to be the thing on here back in the day because of the warranty. If you like Duralast go for it. It'll work just as well as anything else.

I rock the APWI CV shafts from RockAuto for like $38 a piece and for no real reason other than the price. That's just what I use.

if there are any issues with the tone ring (there won't be) you can just tap it off with a hammer.

Also, just about all of the new axles sold by parts stores all come from the same company, regardless of the brand that's on the box. I used to work for that company.

There are a couple of reman manufacturers out there, but I've never been impressed by them.

The benefit of the OEM axle is it has a rubber insulated damper ring on the very long halfshaft for the AUTO CV halfshafts to soak up vibrations. But it also costs $3-400 when you can find aftermarket ones for $25-60.

I used Duralast axles on my H22 swap and they work fine and when i see cracking on the boots after 5-6 yrs, I swap them out for new ones and I'm good to go. They're usually in stock locally also which is a plus since you won't have to wait 3-5 days for it to ship.
