eBay generic headers

My factory downpipe has an internal crack (between the inner and outer tubes) so I am considering getting an exhaust header. Are there any advantages of a Pacesetter or DC Sports header compared to the eBay generics?

The Pacesetter is about $200, DC Sports about $300, OBX about $200. eBay generics seem to be between $65-80.

No matter what I get, I'm going to chop off the collector and weld on the 2.25" one I have made already.

Fitment is the thing, once it clears everything- you're good, and a custom collector will help with that, especially if it's a length issue.

As for the power, I heard the dc's make a little more, with more r&d into it, dyno's, etc. Also quality and fitment is probably more reliable. Being that reviews can be seen based on the names, while the generics you can't do that.

I just got a ebay generic set that didn't fit perfect, but the one I got for the previous car fit perfect and lasted 4 years, so far.

The couple ebay headers that I have ordered have been a hit and a miss. One fit perfect but the bolts were shit and stripped out. Not that big of a deal. The other one hit the crossmember and I had to trim that out quite a bit for it to fit.
I don't think there would be any benefit from a higher end one if you plan on using a different collector. The DC sports I believe has a 2.25in collector already unlike all the others that are 2in.

The DC Sports header also uses the factory style crush gaskets on the downpipe so you won't end up with leaks. The ebay headers usually end up cracking around the welds because in order to save money in materials, these generic companies use as little filler rod as possible. They market it as "micro TIG welding" but it's all bullshit.

This style came out after I ordered my last header, so I cannot say on fitment on these.

This style is the one I ordered twice, forgot to mention the mount to the motor from the exhaust will probably be way off.

IF the DC sports header really has a 2.25" collector then I'll just use it as is, no reason to chop it up.

Don't know about pacesetter so can't help there.

Depends on your budget. If you can afford the DC I'd say get that. Check out PLM, I was going to get a PLM header for my 8th gen but ended up selling the car. I also thought about getting a PLM downpipe for my 9thgen but had the money so I went with full-race to match the catback. The PLM for 8then sometimes leak at the slip joint but most people have them welded. I wouldn't put ebay parts on any of my cars, but that's me...my buddy used to have a tiburon v6 and had an ebay CAI and catback. Fitment was slightly off with both parts but they worked. You pay for what you get IMHO.

I know you are pressed on time but usually patience can get you stuff at minuscule prices, I recently picked up a Megan header on eBay for $55, it's no DC header but for the money I paid I believe it's a pretty good deal. Seller auctioned it as a display unit with no box, when it arrived it was in a sealed box, I am uncertain if they screwed up and sent me the wrong one or what it was but I am not complaining.

EBay, Craigslist, offerup etc. Pretty much anywhere where folks are trying to get rid of stuff so don't be afraid to make offers.

Well I took your advice and found a Pacesetter header for $40 on eBay, it's missing the flexpipe / extension but I would cut that off anyway, seems like a pretty good deal :-) Thanks everyone!
