ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Drum Brake Shoes

    Hey Guys,

I got my drum brakes apart tonight, and the shoes are toast.
Any recommendations on what kind to get?

    Thanks!

The best you can buy. I think those are usually semi metallic. Part stores only offer one kind 9/10 times so see what you can get.

Odds are Napa/OReilly/AutoZone ect, have the same 19.99 pads.

Check your wheel cylinders, and new hardware is never a bad idea.

    Edit: Shoes not pads, sorry.

The hardware should be required when changing the shoes.

It is a complete waste of time to change the shoes without changing the hardware. Same thing goes with brake pads. Always change the hardware. Always.

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to have a shop do it?

Depends on the shop. And labor hours/part prices.

Usually I see shops doing around a hundred bucks per side.

Also, replacing the shoes isn't that hard of a job. It can be time consuming if you haven't done it before.

Best advice: leave one side together while you take apart the other side and replace the shoes. This way, you can use the untouched side as a reference while putting the new shoes on. I've seen some brake drum jobs take two days because they didn't leave the other side together to reference when they get stuck.

I usually just take a picture after I spray everything down. Good reference imho.

I just recently learned that Brembo makes shoes and drums for our cars. Brembo is top quality.

But why when you can do a disc conversion?

Brembo is good, I agree, but why?

Wagner Thermoquiets are one of the best.

My work does brake testing for manufacturers and Federal Mogul friction material is the top almost every time.

We tested Napa, Duralast, and all the other parts stores brands.

You can find them at Orielly auto parts stores

Because not everyone cares to do a disc conversion. Drum brakes actually work just as well in our particular application.
