    got my stereo tuned!

What's up! I just did a final tune on my stereo system. It wouldn't really be a big deal, except that it's the first time I've had music in my cb since 2005! Six years with nothing to listen to but my RPM's.

This was my last setup in 2005:

Alpine CVA1004 w/ external expansion box
    Audiovox DVD/CD player
    Alpine 6 disc MP3 changer
    Alpine XM radio tuner box
Alpine Type R 5 1/4 components in front
    Alpine Type R 6 1/2 coax rear
    Boston Acoustics 4 channel amp
    Boston Acoustics Mono sub amp
Boston Acoustics G5 12" sub in custom fiberglass ported box

That was all stolen in 2005 from our underground parking garage .

    My current setup:

    Pioneer AVIC130BT
    Focal KRX3 3 way components
Arc Audio 4200se 4 channel amp
    Stinger HPM3 4 channel RCA's
All wiring done with Kimber Kable 4PR speaker wire (all cut exact same lengths)

I've been letting my components break in over the last few weeks. Today I decided to do a final tune... OMG, definately the best setup I've ever ran to date! It's so clean, and so accurate! I'm lovin it, and can't wait to get some subs in the mix!

I like it a lot, but have been hearing some negative things about them. Only main issue I'm having right now is my "contacts" transferring from my phone to the headunit. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Not sure yet, I'm waiting for Arc Audio to release their 8" Black Series subs.

Yeah don't get me wrong I love the unit, but to my knowledge from avic411 i'm the 3rd person (that's posted at least) to have a unit die on them. Coming from a Avic-D3 in another car this one blows it out of the water. I love the ipod integration and the xm layout. Luckily my Bluetooth works flawlessly with my phone as well as my ipod apps like pandora, aha radio etc. Only real issue is that the voice recognition blows and flat out does not work.

Yea I've been on avic411 too. I'm using a blackberry curve, it's two years old already lol. I haven't even bothered using the voice command cause in my experience it's not all it's cracked up to be and by the time you get the command to register you could have just pushed the buttons and been done with it. I know the ipod integration is amazing, so i'm considering getting one, probably the ipod touch. I wanna integrate something that supports Pandora. I can do it with my phone using the bluetooth audio, but once a song ends it disconnects. If I change to a different source and then back to bluetooth audio it'll reconnect, but then drop again at the end of that song . Anyway, so far so good. Only other complaint is that I'm getting some noise through the speakers... It's not engine noise, it's something else. I'm gonna try re-grounding the headunit directly to the chassis instead of the ground wire in the harness. I get the noise whether the car is running or not, so who knows, a new ground might do the trick.

Buzzing off the deck? Or are you running amps?

no, not buzzing. It's a faint almost scratchy sound.

It's definately not a blown speaker... It's more of a soft hissing sound. I had my friend listen to it today and he's thinking its just the fact that the headunit has so many electronic features crammed into it that it's probably just a small side effect. His Pioneer avic110 did the same thing. Luckily it's something that you don't hear unless the volume is up high and you change tracks or pause the audio. Otherwise, it isn't noticeable while listening to music. Arc audio is a newer line of equipment, and the 4200SE that I have was designed by Robert Zeff who is an industry legend. He has designed amps for several different companies including Zapco and other hi end companies. He says this amp along with the other amps in the Signature Editions (SE) are THE BEST amps he's ever designed. It's absolutely the cleanest, most powerful 4-channel I've owned, and aside from the hiss I love the sound my Focal 3-way's produce.

I plan on running the amp in 3-way mode, front two channels running stereo, and the rear channels bridged to the subs. I plan on running 3 dual voice coil 8's, as the amp puts out 400w RMS @ 2ohms or 4 ohms, and I'd be around 2.6 Ohms. I don't need anything crazy, I've had my fair share of crazy, I just want to stay clean and get some low end.

The plan is to build an amp rack over the area where the fuel tank is, and build a box across where the seat back would be (I don't have rear seats btw).

I'm sure there will be some fiberglass work involved, but it would just be the face. The other sides will be high quality 3/4" MDF.

Right on....i would use secerity screws on your subs and amp... to keep them from walking off along with bolting down the box.....I am shure you have an good alarm with everything you have done to your car so I dont need to ask if you have one....I cant wait till you build it...whens the subs release date so i know when to keep an eye out four your thread?
