I wonder why manufacturers decided to put all of these plastic covers on everything. My Z had plastic covers where the battery and brake/clutch master cylinders went. the huge ass cover over the engine, belts. Blah! its just to deter us from working on our cars!

The main basis of car manufacturers using plastics is the plastic over time is much less corosive .. ever notice that the plastics under your hood you can clean em and hit them some shine and they look new , well if left alone these cars engine compartment will look new at 200k just by polishing up the plastics ... over time it creates a cleaner looking engine compartment .. think of how many peices of alluminum are coroded or metal is rusted under 90% of the older hoods ...

so it's just a cover up for blemishes...

consider it the make up of the automotive industry.
