Can you read a stock ECU's chip??

I was curious if anyone knows if you can read the stock Honda chips?

I was reading about this on another forum but the thread died with no real
    clear answer.

If I were to desolder a stock ecu's chip & put it onto the Moates Burn2,
shouldn't I be able to read the file on it in Crome?

I wanted to try & read the chip on the Euro-R ECU that came with the swap
from HMO. It has just been sitting in a box in my room.

I’ve been wondering this as well, that’d be cool to extract the roms.

You would buy the Mofat chip kit to be able to read / modify the ECU. Obviously more is required to modify the default as I believe the OEM ECU does not have EEPROM chips.

See I have a socketed P06 right now for the F22 Civic. I know it would have
to be converted to have VTEC but, I was thinking I could desolder the chip
in the Euro ECU & just read/"grab" the file on the chip with the Moates Burn2
& just save the file as a bin to my computer then, burn the file to another
SST chip & put the chip into the P06.

I read that the Honda chips are read only so I think that should work right?

Is that how they get stock map file for Honda engines normally?

That's what I am thinking! I might give it a try for the hell of it since I could
not ever get the PCD ECU to ever run the Euro correctly. The tune I made
works great, but I was just curious if anyone has done this.

It was actually Ghost who said it on HT about Honda Chips!

"I'm pretty sure the stock Honda Chips are ROM chips, AKA Read Only Memory. If that is the case, and I think it is, they cannot be dumped or over written. But they can be read and saved. Then once they are saved outside of the chip they can be edited by a ROM editor. That is why dealership/mechanics can only change simple aspects of the ECU's functions with a stock ECU and scan tool. cloudasc

He used to be really into this stuff. Search on here and it should pull up a lot about this topic. cloudasc used to have a website with tons of related information. Unfortunately times changed and there wasn't as much intrest so he ended up having to shut it down.
