ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

lose power as i turn the ignition key

so yesterday i had no problems with my car being ablwe to start up and drive. this morning, my car wouldnt start. it had no power however, the little light in the door would come on and shine bright.

so i tried to jump start it. that didnt work
had cables connected for a good 10 mins, still i had the same problem.
the little light in the door had power when the key was not turned, as soon as i turned the key so the dash lights would come on i would lose all power and the little light in the door would dim out.

i dont know if the problem is the batt. the starter or the alt. but right now i cant get the car started to go somewhere so the car can be checked out.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like your battery is gone. does it click when you try and crank it? have you tried to trickle charge it?

check to make sure the cables are CLEAN and tight. mine did this one time and the cable ends where loose and it caused this exact problem.

              This.

I had symptoms identical to this... turn the key, and everything shuts off. I spent $300 on a starter and battery, only to get the same result. I cleaned the battery cables with a can of Coke (not recommended... I was just drinking my last can of Coke in frustration when I remembered that old myth about how Coke delivery drivers clean their engines with it...)
Once the cables were clean, it started with no problems whatsoever. I wasted $300 on parts I didn't need.

Dirty cables, loose cables, dirty battery posts, loose grounds, dirty grounds, broken grounds (the one on the fender is very stiff, and can break without being obvious... I've also had that happen.) All those things can cause similar issues.

Either way... both are a lie.

Still, the liquid washes away the acid buildup. A base liquid, rather than an acidic one, would work even better.

You have clean terminals/cable and grease them, so that it doesn't corroid. Corrosion blocks the power output the starter and ignition needs to start the car. I had the same problem and that is what I did. i have zero problems now
