ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

5 lug conversion worth it or no?

Hi, just recently bought a '93 EX-R (EX in USA, I'm in Canada) coupe and am considering buying some new wheels as the stock ones from the previous owner are absolutely shot. I'd like to do a h22 swap someday, as well as some simple bolt ons, just curious if the conversion would be worth the work to compensate for it, or would it just be extra work and I'd be better off sticking with 4 lugs.

Also I don't really have any time or space to do the conversion atm, would there be any shops that could perhaps do a half decent job?

Super new to modding so might be a dumb question but I'll appreciate any patience haha.

    Thanks.

I don't think it would be something I would tackle if I were new to modding. These cars are getting pretty old and things don't always come apart as easy as they went together, especially up where you are, i.e. rust issues. Suspension parts are usually the worst in that regard.

If the original wheels are OEM aluminum, there are places that can refinish them. There are also 16 wheels that came on 97-99 Acura CL models that were still 4 lug.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep 4 lug. I'm wanting to stick with 15' wheels for now, but would 16' 4x114.3's work well without affecting performance? Regardless, I've been wondering if these Enkei92 wheels would fit

bolt pattern is the same (4x114.3) and same diameter, just confused on the offset, which is +25, stock offset is like +35, no? Would that stick out too much and would it affect the car in any way?

        Thanks

Lot of information in this thread on various wheel sizes:

16”, 17”, or even 18” will be fine (though 18 is a bit large for the chassis, I feel). Just be sure to get the proper offset, and don’t go too wide. 7.5” and +40 offset are right about where I was with my 17” wheels.

Hmm, alright. At stock ride height, would there be any issues going with a slightly lower offset like +38? Like caliper rub etc.

I wouldn't mind using spacers but what would guys you recommend?

+38 would probably be fine. It’s when you get to extreme offsets that you experience issues.
Spacers generally aren’t a great idea. They can put unnecessary strain on the hub and lugs. I’ve always avoided them.

I ran an old ICW Racing wheel in 17" and +38, on what I believe were 215/45/17s, never rubbed a day in my life. I was slammed on Function and Form Type IIs. If you're still at stock you'll probably be at what we call "Monster Truck Status".

Honestly, unless there is a wheel you GOTTA have, I wouldn't bother on the lug swap. There are still plenty of universal 4/5-Lug options you can go with that still make the car look good. Even better, I would email the manufacturer of said 5 Lug wheel and ask if they can make a custom 4 Lug design. I'd rather pay maybe an extra $100-$200 and wait maybe a couple weeks delivery than go through the headache of swapping parts that are hard to find.

yea no need to 5 lug. you can run brake kits, any swap, any wheels in 4 lug. i did it a long time ago just for fun. but really no need.

As Fleetwood mentioned above, the Acura CL wheels have some pretty modest upgrades.
I've recently bolted up some myself ... they are 16" and ride like a dream.

Aside from my H22 swap, my 5-lug conversion was the best modification to my car. Just SS' opinion. So many wheel options and better stopping power is the effect. It's definitely worth its weight in gold.

I also agree with this statement. I feel more options have opened up wheel wise and brake wise. I think the whole cost of the conversion was 200-300. (Not including rims) rims were 150 themselves. So 500 total.

I agree with the more wheel options. I strongly disagree with the brakes being better with 5 lug. There are no brake options that won't work with a 4 lug setup. Granted you need the right wheels, but the lug count has no affect on brake options.
