ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Idle down to Engine death

I know I know. There have been a million threads like this. But I could not find a solution. My car starts and idles up nicely drops to around 500rpm then sputters out and dies.

I have checked all vacuum hoses. Check
I have cleaned IACV and FITV. Check
New Coolant hoses on half the car. What I could afford atm.

Tightened throttle cable. Raises my initial idle but still idles down and dies.

You are the CB7 geniuses. Collectively, we can solve this......

    HELP!

Try doing this first since you mentioned you replaced hoses (bleeding the cooling system) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpXg...layer_embedded

then try this: (Honda idle issues) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L788j...layer_embedded

He also mentions looking for vacuum leaks and fixing a check engine light if you have that too.

Hope this helps. You should also try setting the base idle AFTER performing the above items. Here is the link for setting base idle http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=146239

From what I recall it's on top of the actual throttle body facing out towards the passenger side fender. Real easy to access. Here is a picture http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/attachme...1&d=1217823771

Be sure to perform the base idle setting after fixing everything else with the engine fully warm. Be easy on that screw. If nothing happens when you move it while the IAC is unplugged then other issues are at hand. Report back after doing all that and let us know. Also, trying cleaning the IACV really really well again..maybe some carbon got stuck and won't allow the IACV to move around properly.

Does it matter that it idles fine in neutral and park, but bottoms out in drive or reverse?

THat could make a difference. Does it idle fine when you turn the a/c on? What happens when you load up the electrical system (all lights on, heater on full blast, wipers on, radio on, rear defrost on, etc.)? It should stay somewhat steady.

Well at this time the A/C doesnt work. It drags down when I use the power windows though. Radio and lights don't seem to make a difference. Bad alternator?

I would first make sure the coolant system is bleed and then perform the base idle setting procedure. Or if you want, warm up the car all the way, then unplug the IACV while it's running to see what happens. If the car shuts off, then base idle could be set too low outside the range of the IACV. I beleive counter clockwise raises idle, while clockwise lowers it.

Lol. I tried that. I turned it all the way CW first. Then re-read the posts and went and did it again. CCW this time. Also, I bled the coolant system good. The engine was still warm and sprayed me. Bleh. I let it spray out though and then filled from the cap until it was pouring out the bleeder. So I am pretty sure it got bled good. I am holding a steady idle of about 500 rpm in reverse or drive. still pretty bouncy and weak.

Btw. You are being a lot of help. Thank you so much.

So at least now it does idle in reverse and drive? Is at 500rpm while the IACV is connected or disconnected? What's the idle speed while the IACV is connected? What's the idle speed when the IACV is disconnected but the car is in park or neurtral?

No problem on helping dude, that's what we are here for!

If the idle is bouncing around alot, then odds are you have some vacuum leak...ericthecarguy did a video on this..let me find it... here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CPqb...layer_embedded

                        Idle IACV Connected
                        Park/Neutral 1000 rpm
                        Reverse/Drive 500 rpm

                        IACV Disconnected
                        Park/Neutral ~500rpm
                        Haven't tested in Drive/Reverse

In that video he said something about resetting the ECU. Since I just finished some repairs, then I should more than likely reset it yes? Doubt that will affect my idle but its worth a shot right? Unplug the battery for like 15 minutes if I am not mistaken....?

Hmmm...def. too high while in park or neutral. While IACV discon., looks normal. Did adjusting the screw while the IACV was disconnected have any effect on the idle?

just pull the 7.5 ecu/backup fuse for a couple minutes.
