... continued side molding update
One of the initial issues I knew was going to come up were clips. Every pair of side molding I have seen on eBay or in person were missing the clips. If the clips were present, they were broken. Looking closer into theit I realized that making my own was totally possibe. With a bench grinder, and the remains of an actual clip, it is possible to almost exactly replicate the JDM OEM clips by using OEM usdm clips. I picked up plenty of OEM side molding clips from 90/91 at the yard. 4 small slide in clips and 8 larger twist in clips are needed. Here is the finished product. I have only made 3 so far. The biggest difference is the inner centering steps.
With a sharp blade and a heat gun, I went to town and detached the end caps from the side moldings.
I removed the rear cap from the front door molding and the frond cap from the rear door molding. inderesting thing about the side molding is that the inner frame is metal and it's lined with rubber. see for yourself.
This is as far as I have gotten. the next step is going to be measure, measure, measure, and then cut. The rear molding is straight forward. The door moldings need to be welded together. Of course I also need to complete the rest of the clips.
