Exactly what I was thinking. Plus I wouldn’t want to try and source an max motor or have to take an max apart as they are already super rare.

Relatively speaking, an NSX motor isn't that expensive. Compared to our old stock F22s and H22s, of course. But considering how much one might spend for a well built turboed motor or even a newer J(?)-series V6, I don't think it's cost-prohibitive.

Anyway, I purchased some nice foil-backed foam insulation and got that installed. I always cursing myself for not taking pictures, even moreso this time around because there's some details about the headliner and the way it goes on that would've been pretty helpful to newbies.

      Here's what I got:
      https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The thickness I got was I'm guessing 1/4" thickness and about 36 square feet. This was the perfect size to fit on a CB7 roof. I think I cut off about maybe a square foot total extra.

Just from tapping around the roof after I got everything installed, I'm very happy at the results. I don't think I'll be having to suffer from that tin can sound much longer while I'm going down the road, especially if it's raining!

As far as removal of the headliner goes, the only clips holding are at the very rear. I think it's best to leave these for last. Other than those, there's just screws and bolts holding it up. They're all around the perimeter: sun visors, rear view mirror, front passenger side grab handle, coat hooks, the dome light, and some go into brackets built into the headliner itself. Once you get all of those, the front will drop. The three rear clips are near the corners and one in the center. Just give them a good three-inch tug and they will pop out pretty easily.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE FRONT RIGHT CORNER. There is wiring that runs up the pillar and is attached to the headliner. I think it's for the passenger sun visor light. I'm not sure as I didn't follow it to any componentry. I just dropped my liner down enough so a friend and I could move it around while we installed the insulation.

Headliner Construction: Hard fiberboard. Some bracketry built in. These had little fiber washers that I think had a dual purpose. 1. to keep the brackets from rubbing on the roof metal and inducing squeaks; 2. to ease in installation of the liner at the factory. Instead of holding the headliner, a bolt, and a tool to install it with, the installer just has to have his tool and the other hand is free to position the liner.

There is also a very very thin layer of some other type of thin foam on the top side, most likely to just help keep squeaks down. Didn't seem like it would do much for insulation at all even when it was new.

Post added from another thread, just to keep things organized:

I'd noticed a couple months back that the hose that attaches to the top of my p.s. pump was starting to leak so I ordered this hose up. I'd been putting it off until the other day I noticed a 10" diameter wet spot on my driveway! After opening the hood I could see the offending hose was leaking at at least one of its crimp points and soaked my motor mount, AC belt, etc.

I knew I had to change it immediately. So I did and thought I'd save you all a bit of time and tell you the best way to fish it out is DOWN through the engine bay. The kink in the hardline portion that connects to the p.s. valve body (correct term?) makes it too difficult to bring it out from the top without damaging the part, and I'm planning on taking this one to a hydraulic line shop for them to redo in case this Gates one fails.

On a side note, I didn't care for how tightly the manufacturer coiled the line in its packaging. Wouldn't you know it? The neck of the pipe where it fits into the p.s. pump was not shaped correctly and took some light bending to clear the pump bracket. Other than that it's kinda fugly and looks nothing like the stocker, hence why I may just get the old one recrimped with new sections of hose and put it back on.

I also decided to replace the p.s. fluid reservoir as mine had gotten very old and yellowed, and was pretty hard to read. I took a red paint pen and painstakingly traced over the lettering to make it even easier to read.

New carpet is installed. Fitment would be easier if the rubber layer added on to the bottom wasn't so stiff. It's a very rigid rubber regardless of the temperature. It gets a bit more pliable with a heat gun, but not much.

I made one mistake trimming it in a very visible area right between the shift console and e-brake. I ended up having to patch together some scraps and silicone them down temporarily while I get a bigger piece from somewhere and patch it in.

haha, I compared installing my rug to wrestling a bear for 2 hours straight. That rubber backing was sooo hard to manipulate it was crazy!! And I almost made your mistake too. What you should do is get a 92/93 console that stretches the whole way.

That is a smart idea then you don't have to worry about seeing the mess up. I want to get new carpet for the accord, would you recommend this company and link if possible.

I would for carpet, but keep in mind it's super stiff so working with it when cold is much more difficult. I was aware it would be, but it's just something to consider. The quality seems very good, with all the bumps in the right places for the seat anchor points, trans tunnel, etc. My only gripe was the driver's footpad was fused a little too far forward but that's forgivable. It was made plenty big so it can be trimmed down perfectly.

If your car already has a bunch of sound deadening or you just plan on doing your own, just get the regular carpet.

In regard to seat upholstery, the jury's out on a rec for that. Haven't seen the covers in person yet, and I just found out the other day that they need 6-8 weeks from the time you order to get it to your door! It was only like a week for the carpet, fyi.

Speaking of carpet, with the way it attaches to its little plastic tracks on the rockers, you need a stapler capable of pushing a 1/2" staple. It also has to have a base to bend the prongs of the staple back. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to do it with my version.

The carpet turned out nice. Nice and clean. Clean carpet is a good thing too. Some decent CD Accord floor mats would work well it. Are you wanting new cloth or leather on the seats?

Thanks, I think so too. Leather would be nice, but all the things I found on the internet either weren't quite my style just weren't available. We'll see how the cloth works out. I ordered a black/grey combo. I hope it matches the carpet ok.

I forgot to link the company in my prior post. I got mine from Stockinteriors.com, but it's an AAC carpet. Oddly, it's roughly $50 cheaper on stockinteriors' website.

Update on my interior. I finally received my new seatcovers after over 6 weeks of waiting and I can say they were well worth the wait. I was skeptical of how the colors would look, but they look great and are going to coordinate well with my carpet and grey trim. I inspected them all over and the quality is excellent. Not a stitch out of place, quality fabric with foam backing, nice piping, etc. And they look great installed.

I've gotten the rear seat bottom, the rear seatback and the side pieces done. I haven't installed them yet, but here's a preview. I've got the front passenger seat torn down and I'll be tackling that next. I also ordered these from stock interiors as well. If you've got a tan, red or blue interior they offer those colors too. If you're on the fence about getting I set I highly recommend it.

                        New seat covers:
                        underneath -

topside of a front seat bottom -

                        Rear backrest - before:

                        During:

                        Rear Backrest - after:

                        New rear seat belt webbing:

A word of caution for when you're disassembling - the wire that is embedded in the foam for the cushions is almost 30 years old in some cases, and in some areas this wire may have torn the foam. This will need to be reinforced in some way. I did it by running some welding wire around the embedded wire and twisting it with some safety wire pliers on the backside (not pictured).

In other news, I recently went over 390k miles.

Are their seat covers supposed to be like the stock material? I managed to get an OEM seat bottom for my driver seat (tan starting to turn green), but can't find a new seat back cover. I'd like to replace at least my driver belts.

                          I'm about a year behind, I'll turn 378,000 tomorrow.

The feel and look of the set I got is very similar to different colors I've seen. I've seen/felt one navy blue interior before that was in good shape. Judging from the samples I received and my seat covers I'd wager the navy is damn near identical. Not so sure about the tan though. Even if it wasn't spot on indistinguishable from OEM, I'd bet it's damn close.

Obviously the shades on mine don't match the stock grey, but the "fuzziness" is right there with others I've seen in the junkyard that aren't as threadbare as mine!!

I also just remembered, they offer two grades of covers; mine was the plusher, two toned version. So maybe the base level is a lower quality material.

As far as belts go, I used SafetyRestore, they did a good job.

Based on my experience OEM fabrics were different between DX/LX and EX/SE (if they weren't leather).

Oh I see what you're saying now. So keep in mind, Stock Interiors offers two different grades of material, a base level and a more expensive "plush" version on their website. They don't indicate if either level is supposed to be comparable to DX/LX or EX/SE levels.

I will say that my new covers don't appear to be identical to any material I've seen in any Accord regardless of trim level. But it looks and feels period correct. It doesn't look out of place at all.

I can take some more pictures of mine up close. I plan to show some more as I get the pieces installed next week.
