      Lots of progress today.

Backer plates for butt welds at C pillar and rocker installed.

Forgot to take pictures of adhesive application on wheel well opening and where quarter meets the trunk floor. I even had to build my own application gun for the adhesive cartridge (picture later); 3M wanted $500+ for theirs. Applied a bead on both parts, then used a brush to spread over the entire area to be joined and covered up to where I had previously applied rust inhibitive coating. Then applied another bead along the whole joint and installed the skin with lots of clamps. Used a tie down strap to pull the top of the panel in to line up with the trunk and rear window opening. I used between 1/2 and 2/3 of the adhesive cartridge for this side. Welded everywhere else.

Trunk gap turned out pretty well.

Letting the adhesive dry overnight before removing the clamps. Just need to weld the rocker panel joint below the wood clamp block, then get it to a shop that has been helpful for welding of the pillar and rocker seam.

      Update 9/18 @ 9:00 PM:

Took off the clamps this morning. Unfortunately, the gap between the door and the quarter skin is a bit too large, but there is nothing I can do about it now except maybe move the rear door back a little on the hinges. Welded the rocker joint. Wire brushed all the welds, cleaned, then applied rust inhibitive coating over all the welds inside and out.

Time to start the left side!

Very nice. Did you have to weld it all the way around like on the pillar?

I used the adhesive for the wheel well joint and where the quarter skin meets the trunk floor. I welded along the door opening, the rear window opening, front corner of the trunk opening and along a joint I created above and below the tail light (all the shiny areas in the photos are after wirebrushing the spot welds.

            Looking great!

This is exactly what the body shop did for my car...I couldn't imagine doing it myself.

Had the body shop that provided a lot of tips on how to do this weld the C pillar and rocker panel joints. I then coated them with a rust preventative paint. I moved the right rear door rearward slightly to reduce the door to dogleg gap; unless you're looking for it, the gap doesn't look too bad.

On to the driver side! Separated the inner wheel housing from the donor quarter.

Also separated the inner wheel housing from the donor quarter. No pictures yet.

Total time? I don't know; I couldn't even guess because it has been so piecemeal. For the right side, I spent a lot of time just looking at it after each cut trying to figure out how to take the pieces apart and be able to put it back together. Weather is a big factor now (car is outside).

Yes, the paint is shot everywhere else so the whole car gets paint. I haven't determined how much of the paint work I want to attempt myself.

Do you have any pics of your homemade seam sealer application gun?

                      I envy your quarter panel!

The gun is for the two part body panel adhesive. I used two caulk guns to make an extra long one (spot welded them together) that would accept the cartridge and the dual ram I made from PVC pieces. As I said earlier in the thread, 3M wanted $500 for their gun!

                      Driver side opened up.

Thanks man! I lucked out when I bought it.

Brilliant! I like it! I will definitely use this in the future! The power assist 3m gun is nice but not worth it.

                          Any more updates?

Not much progress lately. I've been really busy at work, which helps some because even though I am salaried, they pay some overtime (straight time, but more than 40/week) so I can put some aside for a good paint job. The weather hasn't been real cooperative either here in southwestern Ohio.

Still real busy at work; investigating a couple regional jet engine fires.

Lots of rusty CB's in southern Ohio as well - every time I see one, I think "I can fix that", but then remember how much work it has been to fix mine, and I'm only halfway finished!

What part of Philly? My late wife grew up in Devon. After her parents died, her brother sold the house (converted carriage house for the house next door, who knows how old). New owners bulldozed the house, cut down all the trees, then built a $3.6 million dollar house on the lot.
