    I have not.
Which, with a name like "roadkill", and the context of this discussion, means I might be better off if I waited till after I get back from my trip!

I just read the ad and saw that the implication was that the car wasn't running. Can you not forward him $100 and have him get it started? Even if he's not there, I'm sure a roadside assistance company would help out. That way you'd have a little bit of information before you actually get there.

I don't think it would fool anyone. I think the cops would wake me up and ask me why I look suspicious as fuhh.

So, RJ is in the Navy. He doesn't have the time to work it out himself.
I could buy a battery, and ship it to him (that's what he says it needs) but that is the extent of what he has time to do.
However, it needs a fluids change, esp before a 3k mile long trek.

He did offer to have a mech look at it, but idk if that is necessary, as I can do all this myself for $50 (battery not included) and an hour and a half.

My obo I was 2700, as it sits. If he takes it to the shop, he is expecting 3k.

Idk, it's a cost/benefit I am actively trying to work out.
This is only my third car, and is the first I am buying out of area.

Is there another member in the area that could help out? Just ship him the money for a new battery, shipping an actual battery seems a bit much.

                Yes, I meant $ for a battery.
As to local people; I posted in the regional thread about my visit, but most of our active guys are not in San Diego.

Whelp, I'm set to arrive in San Diego April 18th. (Tues) evening. All of the 19th (Wends) I will be in SD legalizing the car and getting her ready to drive to Fl.

I have decided that I will take a scenic route home, if I have a passenger. (I have a few friends looking into it)

The scenic route will take me to the grand canyon in AZ, then Up and Over to Denver, then across and down to OKC. (I have a friend there) and then down to Baton Rouge ( I have family there) and on to Jax.

If I do not have a passenger, It will most likely be I-10 straight across.

I'm really excited either way. I'm getting almost exactly everything I wanted in a wagon!!

Denver's quite a ways out of the way between the Grand Canyon and OKC, what's bringing you up this way? If you think your car's up to it, I'd recommend hitting up Pikes Peak just west of Colorado Springs... just bring a jacket!

Congrats on finally finding that perfect wagon!

If you do end up doing to Oklahoma City to Baton Rouge leg of the trip, give me a buzz. We'd be happy to buy you lunch/dinner and I'd love to check out the wagon!

Rj is a legit guy, and I've known him 10+ years. I remember this wagon when it was stock and all the work was done by another member on this board, and can vouch that no shortcuts were taken and the car is solid. I know it's scary buying a car across the country but the motor is from Hmotors, and the car has some rare items on it.

@Bmxicansd, I appreciate the vouch for RJ and the car!

So, It appears this will be a solo trip.
As such, I am not going far off the straight line home.

However, I found a website for road trips that kicks ass. It lets me route designated scenic drives into my route, and calculates my costs, tells me where I should stop (according to my driving preferences.) And more. I tried 5 different apps, and several websites, and this one was far and away the best.

Oh! I do have a car question!
The wagon has an H with the M2a4 trans, what is the gas mileage I should get on the Hwy? I am calculating for 35mpg hwy on my route planner.

I managed to get around 32mpg with light-footed highway driving in my sedan with that combo. That was after my ECU tune, though. With the stock P13, I averaged no more than 28mpg.

Remember, H22 = no less than 91 octane. 93 when you can get it!

When I drove from Jax to Miami for AFM, I averaged 40-45 mpg hwy, so going down to 30 AND 91 octane makes my wallet cry a little...
