Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

And useless as fuck on a SOHC except as decoration. Nothing personal, just emphasizing how useless they are.

He's not talking about an adjustable cam gear... just the gear that's on the A1 cam at the moment. I'd say it's a pretty useful item...

Ah, I was still low on my coffee levels. My brain must have just automatically put 'adjustable' in there, since it's what most people are asking about.

            Yeah, it comes in handy.

Adjustable gears are useful to a point... they just have a fairly limited use. It's a fine-tuning tool, not a "holy shit" upgrade.

I agree, on a DOHC. On a SOHC, it's just as easy to tweak the ignition timing with the same affect, since the valves will still open the same relative to each other, you're only changing when they open in regard to spark occurence, whereas a DOHC, you can adjust the intake and exhaust sides seperately from each other and relative to spark occurence. They do make for a more performance oriented engine appearance though.

I never thought of it that way!
Well, wouldn't the injector timing also be a consideration? I suppose not quite as much as the ignition timing.

But yeah, since the SOHC cam would change both the intake and exhaust timing to the same degree when adjusted, you're right. Interesting way of looking at it!

DOHC makes much more sense with adjustable gears, since you have control over intake and exhaust independently.
I've had some AEM adjustable cam gears in my basement since 2004... They've never gone on my H22.
