one reason to make sure you take the proper steps with your motor

i was on H-T and i came across a blown motor thread. guy was spraying nitrous on his B20. must have done something wrong and blew up his motor. he thought it was the worst. heres his:

no this piston was NOT taken out of the motor....

i was like. dag. thats pretty bad. then i went on to the next page or 2 and then i saw the worst blown motor ive ever seen in my life. its graphic so any of you gear heads might throw up chunks if you see it.....scroll down at your own risk....

this from a motor with a snapped CRANK. thats right. a snapped CRANK. i didnt even know those things could snap:

Was that crank knifed edged? Ive heard that can weaken them enough to break..

Negative. I've dropped cranks before(on purpose) and they won't fucking break.

That looks like maybe a bearing got too hot on one of the mains, melted and probably the bitch snapped. That motor looks like it had sleeves and forged pistons as well. I wonder if it was an aftermarket crank.

PR CB7 just got a motor from tigerjap with a snapped crank.

tuning would cause holes in the pistons and or valves.

The first one looks like the timing belt slipped somehow or a misshift. The 2nd one looks like building error.

I've had the 1st one happen to me, except on 1 cylinder only. Timing belt slipped on my motor at idle. Somehow.

And that second motor is what would've happened if he tried to start it! Good thing it was taken apart and inspected first.. most people don't do that!

When the block blows apart like that, parts leave the engine... very hot parts. Very fast moving parts. That engine isn't all that far away from you, and the firewall, hood, and windshield are much weaker than the block that those bits just broke out of... I wouldn't want to be in a car with a grenade like that under the hood!
