ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

f18a caburetor problems? cold start problems.

Hey there, new here and i have a problem...

I have searched high and low all over the internet for a fix but still no luck I have a 1990 cb1 honda accord with a f18a carbureted engine. when the car is cold the engine will run on 3 cylinders, the 4th cylinder doesn't fire as I have taken out the plug lead and it runs the same. Once it has warmed up it runs perfectly fine.

Now my suspicion is that there is loss of compression in cylinder 4 when its cold because the oil/piston rings are worn and the oil isn't sealing properly until it has warmed up and become more viscus. My brother is an apprentice mechanic and reckons its the carburetor that is causing the problem. He still hasn't tried a compression test yet....

has anyone experienced this before? know whats wrong? because other then that, the car is pretty much mint!

    Cheers Nick.

Well you won't know if there is a loss of compression until you've performed a compression check. I don't know much about carbs but I would start by cleaning and checking the timing on it first. Try using starting fluid when you first start the car to see if it's fuel or air related.

The air that each cylinder draws in all comes through the same carb so I cant see how the carb would cause one particular cylinder to misfire when its cold. Check compression when cold and when warmed up, see if that gets you anywhere with it.

cheers guys, and slimmtex thats exactly my thought. I started it up before and opened the auto choke and it ran fine, so i think the choke might not be opening fast enough
