EXT: Auto cross numbers

Make your own magnetic auto-x numbers.

Materials:
Magnetic vent covers available at Lowe's or Home Depot - ~$5
Computer
Printer
Paper
Scissors
Marker
Contact paper (optional)

^The 3 pack was just enough to make 6-digits and 2 class letter panels.

So basically take your computer and open up photoshop or paint and make the number(s) you need in the font and size you want. I made mine as large as possible, and that was with 652 point font.

SCCA handbook says the numbers need to be 8'' in height and 1.75'' in stroke. That is a minimum. I think mine ended up being like 8'' in height and 2''-3'' of stroke.

Print that out and cut the number out:

Repeat for all numbers and arrange them on the magnetic sheet. Take your marker and begin tracing.

After tracing:

Start cutting with either scissors or an x-acto knife. I found the scissors were more maneuverable.

Then move on to the class letters. My class happens to be Street Touring Sport which uses STS. Make them with photoshop again. These can be smaller. In fact, the SCCA handbook says anywhere from 75% to 50% of the size of the numbers is fine.

Print and cut again:

I chose to trace these onto contact paper, then apply the contact paper to the magnetic panel so that all the smaller letters stay together. I chose to leave the numbers separate because then you can make different number combinations if needed. Ex. 227 can become 272, or 27, or 22, etc.

Cut the pieces of contact paper out:

Apply them to the magnet panel:

Make another one and you are done:

Note to Deevergote: Make an auto-x/road racing sub-forum!

Deev told me months ago he would create one. I have been bugging himbit by bit to get one. He just is too lazy to do it. It is okay though, I am too lazy to do a lot of things.
