ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The $32 Ceramic Ebay Header - Build quality?

    Hello all,

I have a leak in my flex pipe and am looking for a cheap solution to repair it. I've read that a replacement would cost ~$30 + labour (to weld it on). That's almost equal to the cost of this brand new cheap ebay header incl. shipping:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...1%7C240%3A1318

Opinions on this setup as a cheap alternative? Should I fix my existing flex pipe (from an A6 engine) or buy this cheap ebay header.

Edit: I recently called a local shop to ask for a quote and they want ~$120 CAD to fix the flex pipe! That is way too friggin expensive... I gotta get this fixed, the fumes are getting into the car : (

    Thanks,

ooh, i really like the black ceramic...

but otherwise, i have the same header (silver ceramic) and its a pile of shit, i had to modify my a/c line just to get it to mount in place, and then i had to cut back a good amount of the front crossmember to get it to stop banging into it. and thats with a solid front motor mount. its great if you dont mind working to get it to work (i expected that, and didnt mind, considering how cheap it is)

I have the same exact header also. It is not that bad. I had to modify my ac line as well and i had to remove a couple exhaust studs out of the head to squeeze it in. Be sure to get a better gasket though! I'm in the process of fixing my header to downpipe gasket right now because I had a leak about 3 weeks after I installed it.

I got a an ebay cheapie also, mine fit perfect, just that it was too close to the ac line for my taste so I just stuck a pry bar in between and bent the line and now its all gravy.
            wat?

yeah I have that same header. I removed my AC so no issues there! haha

But less than a month after installing it i did need to replace the manifold to down pipe gasket with blobs of copper sealant. But other than that, it works great for me lol

Gaskets can cost quite a bit. I think 20-30 dollars just for the one that mates to the head. Then you have the 2 others, the one that mates to the CAT and the other that mates to the lower section of the header unit. Perhaps use their gaskets and buy Gasket sealent to go with it?

I would buy this, but the damn Canadian dollar sucks now!!! bah.

From personal experience, the only problem I had with the cheap gaskets is the one that connects the header to the downpipe. I just used copper sealant between there and my header has been good ever since.

i have a ebay ss and i agree don't use the gaskets that come with them. i used the oem gasket for the top, flat filed the flanges and used "the right stuff " gasket maker for the down pipe connection. the ebay header had a flexpipe too, not the ball style joint that pacesetter sells.
this has worked flawless for 40 000kms if i had more to spend when this was done i would have bought something nicer.
