speeding tickets and states/countries
So, how does this work exactly?
Figure, I'm from PA and I get a ticket in NY. Do I HAVE to pay it? What if I dont? What if I'm from the US and I get a ticket in Canada? Do I HAVE to pay it? What if I dont? no tickets for me just wondering. |

From what I hear, it varies.
I was told that the state of New York and the province of Ontario share their information with each other. Not exactly sure how it works with PA and other states.

If you get a ticket outta state, it takes a little longer but the state you got the ticket in forwards it on to your local DMV who then takes over chasing after you. I got busted for speeding in Philly and after tryin to blow it off for a while, i was summoned to court in DE for not paying it. the only thing i'm not sure of are points because offenses are different per state. If you get a ticket though, just pay it. a 70 dollar ticket becomes a 180 dollar ticket very quickly when a judge gets his hands on it.

The ticket that is issued to you is your notice to make the scheduled court appearance and/or pay the fine associated with it. If you were to not do that, then that ticket becomes a warrant for your arrest. It depends on the amount of the violation on how far the issuing agency will go to get you into their custody.
For example, I live in Johnson County, Kansas the county directly to the north is Wyandotte County. If I were to have an outstanding ticket in my name that was issued by an agency in Wyandotte County and I am pulled over by an agency in Johnson County, the amount of my warrant would need to be $1000 or more for Wyandotte County to come and arrest me. The same amount goes for if I was issued a Ticket by an agency in Missouri but stopped in Kansas. It depends on the amount of the warrant, the offense (speeding, DUI, etc.), and the available manpower of the agency that holds the warrant. Being that I am in Kansas, I have no idea what the policy would be if this was involving another country. Hopefully that helps a little bit. ![]()

Ontario and NY dont share info with eachother at least when it comes to speeding tickets. But if you get a ticket in NY and you live in Canada you dont have to pay it, but you might want to in case you ever get stopped again in NY
