DIY how to check your main relay and fuel system

Volt meter required for this

you can check your main relay by testing for voltage at the harness that is just behind the rear seat and is just before the access port for the fuel sender. If you have voltage on the yellow wire that is also the biggest wire in that harness when you turn the key on then your main relay is good and you also have voltage to the pump. if you can verify voltage to the pump when the pump is turned on and you can hear the fuel pump turn on and buzz for about 2 seconds then your pump and main relay are good.

You should check voltage on the injectors while cranking as well and see if you have voltage. if you dont have voltage by checking both wires power/ground on the injector harness then check for voltage first by putting one lead on the power of the injector and the ground lead on a metal ground or neg on the battery. If you do see voltage then wiring for power is good. If no power then check resistor box with known good unit.

if voltage was good then do the same with the negative terminal on the injector harness and the other lead on power. if you do have voltage your fuel system is good and id probably start double checking ignition.

if you do not have voltage then your ecu is probably toast. test with a known good ecu and recheck ignition. but at this point the only thing left is the ecu or the wiring between the injectors and ecu.

this is good for checking voltage across a system but to check a pump it takes more than this since you have to check volume, not trying to be an a** just offer advice

you are correct buts its pretty rare to ever need to check for volume on our cars. usually the pump either works or it doesnt.
