Update!!!!!!
I finished making the kickpanel speaker pod for the driver side today, and almost finished up the passenger one. Here are some pics of the driver side kick and the start of the passenger one. The driver side kick maintains access to the fuse box and still accomodates the fuse box door. I will be relocating the hood release though.

Passenger side Kickpanel
Here is the passenger side kick. I stretched grille cloth around the mould and glassed it. It's pretty dry right now, after a little bit I can trim the excess off the backside and tomorrow at work if I have time I'll finish up the outside with body filler. The piece of MDF you see on the backside is just to help the kickpanel hold it's shape while I was building it. It'll be removed.

Today I spent a few hours at my friend's shop mounting the MDF speaker rings to the passenger door and getting the door panel trimmed to fit. I also spent a couple hours making some trim rings for the door panel where the speaker grill will be inserted. Before I left work, I finished up the passenger kick panel, so both of those are ready to be wrapped. No pics of that, but it pretty much looks like the driver side one, minus the opening for the fuse box.

Just so you know, you can't just swap the dash in. This thread is not a do-it-yourself thread so there are many products used and steps taken that are not mentioned. Also, to make everything look right you'd really need a donor car in working condition like I did.

Driver side kick panel is almost done being wrapped.
Today I started working on the door panels. The 6.5" mid is mounted to the door shell via two 1/2" MDF rings that are glued together and fastened to the door shell with 12 screws total. 4 screws hold the bottom ring to the door, 4 more screws and wood glue hold the top ring to the bottom ring, and 4 long screws go through both pieces into the door shell. Once I dynamat the door shell I'll install the mid for the final time with all 8 required screws. The more solid the mount is, the better the frequency response will be. ![]() This pic shows the trim ring for the speaker, which will cover the mounting screws and basket on the mid. I'm doing this rather than using the grills that were included with the component set. I trimmed the door panel and oem speaker grill to fit it, and then fiberglassed it in place. Fiberglass won't hold to the plastic grill, so I will be reinforcing it heavily with epoxy I have at work. ![]() This pic shows the trim ring that will hold the speaker grill in place. It is slightly overcut, so that when the suede is wrapped around both rings it holds the grill nice and tight. ![]() And this pic has the grill set in place so you can get a better idea of what I'm doing here. ![]() These next pics are of the passenger door panel, and basically show what was trimmed on both door panels in order to do this. ![]() ![]() ![]() The passenger door panel is to the same point as the driver door is, I just didn't take pics of it. Once I've reinforced the rings to the door panel, I'll be using a 2-part foam to mould the bottom of the door panel and shape and blend the grill rings out. Then the panels can be wrapped in suede, the inserts glued back in, and the door panels will be just about done

Here are some pics with the door panel on for a final test fit. Hope to have them both done by end of next week.

The day is near!!!
I got a call from my friend an hour ago, he had just spent the last 8 hrs making patterns and stitching up my dash! I happened to be in the area so I stopped by. It's gonna look awesome! He's got everything stitched up and ready to go, and the dash should be done by the end of the day tomorrow
Also, he finished wrapping both kick panels too. They also turned out great! The two part foam for shaping my door panels should come in next week, so when it does I'll get crackin on finishing those up so he can wrap them. I'm so pumped about how this is all turning out, can't wait to update with some completed pics!
