    Urgent laptop help. ( !!!!! )

I posted my problem in the thread below, but I need a quicker answer.
    [URL=http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=148600&page=2[/URL]
Ok, I've pretty much been all over this thread, lol. I have another dumbfuck problem, sigh!

It's my laptop again, the one with the cd-rom problem.

All day for long hours I've been browsing on the webs. Had to go take a bathroom break, come back and my screen is all static ( like static on a tv ) only it's still. Not fuzzing and they were brown and black colors. Closed the lid to put it in sleep but it didn't reconize it and kept on running. ( even the screen was still on with the lid closed )

Turned off the laptop ( press and hold the power button )

Took the battery out too. Waited a few seconds, and power on.

It would power up for a few seconds, then turn off, and repeat. All without the screen even turning on.

If I hold the ctl + alt + del buttons, the computer will stay on and the fan will run quietly, but the screen is still black ( not even the backlight )

Could it be my screen or my hardrive crapping out ?
I've been all over google and this guy has the most similar problem as mine from Cnet forums, sadly he got no answers. So I'm stuck too.

    Laptop turns on then off
    by taekwondo4ever - 12/21/07 4:22 PM
Okay, this is exactly how things went. I got my HP dv6449us back from HP on Monday after they had to replace the motherboard because the wireless adapter wouldn't turn on. I powered the laptop up, things went perfectly, and the wireless was working again. This laptop has had no previous problems at all. So, it has been working fine ever since Monday. About a half an hour ago, I reboot the laptop, I then walked out of the room for about 10 minutes, I walk back in expecting to see the screen black. I didn't have it plugged in, so I expected to move the mouse and see the sign in screen, but nothing happened. I tried turning the touchpad on and off with the button, it turned on and off, but when I touched it, nothing happened. So I held the power button to turn it off. When I turned it back on, it turned on quickly, then shut off. Then I turned it on again and it stayed for about 10 seconds, then shut off. The LCD doesn't turn on at all. I plugged in the S-video cable to my TV from my laptop to check for an error message, nothing came up. I took out my 12 cell battery and put in the original 9 cell, same thing. Tried it with the AC adapter only, same thing. It just turns on and off quickly after about 5 tries before hanging for 10 seconds, then shuts down, and the process starts all over again. I haven't really added much to the laptop since I got it back, and I still have the backup. Please help!

I starting to take things apart and booting up each time. I removed ram memory cards, actual harddrive, cd rom( which is broken anyways ) and keyboard.

All are the same results. On and off , on and off. It's like it's fucking breathing. I had no problems with this laptop other than the broken cd rom, even the hardrive was clean. Only had documents, 1 gig of music, avast prtotection, and NO viruses .

I had this laptop for two years so far ( out of warrenty ) and I'm on the verge of getting something new if more problems keep coming.

As of right now. I have to replace my cd rom, some cracked plastic pieces, my motherboard ( if it is bad ), and my battery soon ( life is poor ).

I'd say about 150 bucks in repairs and I don't think I could replace some parts my self. That's alot, but it'll be running good as new, I'm sure.

It's either this, or get something new, which would be kind of nice.

Btw, I'm posting through my iPhone, lol.

First off, what kind of computer is it? Model #? That problem seems to be motherboard related.

So from what i'm gathering your laptop is firing up but the screen is now black? If that is the problem it very well could be your inverter, I'm having the same problem with my screen "which was not the inverter" I now believe it is the backlight itself. Also have you tried to hook the laptop up to an external monitor?

It's not the inverter. His computer is power cycling on it's own (unless I'm mistaken). The laptop isn't on long enough to engage the backlight.

Sometimes you can force diagnostics to run by holding certain keys down when powering the system on. It's not very likely to work, but it's worth a shot.

Oh sorry, it's a HP pavilion dv6810us. Windows vista home pre. Dual Amd turion 64.

New update, if you hold down the "alt" or "f10" key while booting up, the computer will stay on, the fan will run for 5 or so seconds. Then stops. 10 seconds later the fan will run steady again.

Now the computer is on with the fan running but with a black screen.

Here's a vid from earlier, lol ( I'm that desprete to get it fixed)

sorry , you'll have to copy and paste it. I can't hyper link it .

Is it these, next to the processor ? They look fine. I heard that they should be swelled up or "leaking" if they go bad.

This is what I've been up too, I don't know why, lol

In my experiences with computer hardware failure, I'd say one out of 100 or so would have ANY visible signs of failure or damage. In fact, the number came up last week when a video card overheated. The inductor (ring magnet wrapped in a copper wire) heated up and melted the surrounding board. Even with lightning strikes, most damage is rarely visible.

You'll be hard pressed to find the individual culprit. You've already done the hard work - disassembling the computer. Get a board.

Ok, so I decided that I'm going to give this laptop to my dad and he'll replace the motherboard. He'll likely use it for work.

I'll get something new. When thinking about new laptops, I kept thing about your new Acer with touch you got about a month ago. Has it given you any problems yet ? I'm really interested in it, all the specs are perfect for me.

                      http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...ght=acer+touch

this time I don't want HP, I'm not going to be the one to say they're crap becuase some of there other products are good and I'm too nice, lol. I will say their customer service is garbage !

Edit : tigerdirect has that Acer Aspire 5738PG-6306 for $699.00 free shipping.

Should I get the 1 yr depot warrenty after mtg warrenty for $134.00 ? Or could I get a extended wrrenty plan somewhere else for cheaper ?

it would be a total of $834 with 2 yr warrenty shipped.

the only, and I mean ONLY tangible issue I have with the laptop is the keyboard's build quality. All the buttons work, but some of them are settling in to be slightly crooked. Also, the keys are completely flat, making typing a very little bit more involved (must be more aware of where your fingers are)

besides that, no complaints. It's a great performer. graphics are awesome, processing speed is great (reencoding a dvd used to take me 2 hours... takes around 25 mins now), plenty of USB ports (4), the screen is extremely bright... the touchscreen factor on this laptop does NOT add the characteristic haziness as is such with most other touchscreens. it's a completely clear piece of glass (probably plastic) that lays over the LCD. Very sharp and detailed.

                        oh... and the fingerprints.
NOT on the screen, as you would assume... the screen is PLENTY bright enough to hide any fingerprints or smudge marks on it.... the fingerprints that bother me are on the outside. It's got a glossy cover which is impossible to keep completely clean... but this is something I expected, having owned glossy-skinned Acer's previously.

Oh, and it's quite bulky and heavy. Not for extremely portable use... more as a desktop-replacement with mobile capabilities.

All in all, an outstanding bargain for a powerful system. Worth the cost even without the touchscreen!

As for the warranty... I don't buy into extended warranties, but it you're paranoid and have the extra loot to blow, it can't hurt. You'd be paying just a little more than I did, but you'll be getting a much longer warranty than I.

Ok sweet, a fe more questions.

                          How's the battery life ?

Like I high performance mode ?

                          And power saver ?

Has the battery itself gotten weaker ?

You seem to know your stuff, so I'm pretty confident in getting this laptop.

I'm like this --------l l------- close to getting it . Lol

battery life is about 3 hours on max screen brightness. I set my power settings to my specific likings on laptops, so I dunno about compared to default factory settings. I rock with the graphics on full power and wifi on high performance all the time (on wall and battery power), and it results in my ~3 hours usage before being prompted to plug in.
On low screen brightness, low power wifi and graphics settings, I bet you could get about 4 hours of use before needing to plug in.

Unfortunately there is no option for an extended life battery on this laptop. It sits flush with the bottom, therefore cannot support a larger battery that protrudes from the back (like is possible with most other laptops)

For me, battery life is not that big of an issue. I'm always within reach of an outlet, so I usually have my laptops plugged in all the time.

This is the fourth Acer laptop I've owned. 3 are still running great, the oldest of which is over 2 years old and still holds a charge for about 2 hours. The first Acer laptop I owned would be running still, except the power recepticle is touchy, therefore was very difficult to induce a charge.... but all-in-all, very satisfied with Acer.

I dare you to try to find another brand's laptop with specs as impressive, even without touch, for this low a price.

                            ACER FTW!!!!!!!

I couldn't wait for a response from you, was much to excited and bought it.

I watched a few video review's right before buying it to be sure it was the one.

Got it here, $700 + Free shipping + Florida tax ( damn, they only charged tax in 3 states, FL was one of them )
                              http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...887&CatId=4938

With a three year + accidental damage warranty protection from squaretrade.com for $120.

All in all I paid $868.00. I have to admit, that's not bad at all.

My Hp laptop was $550 2 years ago, now look where's it's at, lol. So if anything does happen to this Acer within a few years, then it must of been money well spent.
