- All-Red Taillights DIY -
....thanks to accord9004, and whomever he found this from (or if he wrote it himself, again... thanks to him, lol)
Some of us dont want to shell out the money for the red/clear OEM lights just yet, but hate altezzas and want something different on their cars.
I
Chose to go with all-red taillights. To do this, you need the
following materials:
- General toolset to take the taillights out
- Masking tape
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Wire coat hanger (if you wish to hang the light up while spraying)
- Testors Transparent Red model car paint
- Brillo pad or fine grit sandpaper
- Model paint clear coat
1. Remove the taillights from the car. They come out in 4 pieces.
2. Clean them really good with the rubbing alcohol, and let them dry.
3. Mask off the reverse light, so you wont paint over it. Take the brillo pad, or sand paper, and lightly scuff the lense, but nothing too deep.
4. Hang the light up (if you want) Spray light coats of the red on to the taillight. Remember, you will put it on dark enough to make the amber red, but the more coats you put on, the
closer to black it will get.
5. After you have reached your desired darkness, apply 2 to 3 coats of clear. Let them dry, and reinstall them to your car.
Enjoy!
