Ehhh... Hold out for a MIG (wire feed/gas shield) you'll be much happier. That's a Stick Welder, it'll be aight for messy stuff. Lot's of slag and not very accurate. Btw, there is a NEW Welding Forum

stick welders are good "farm" welders, welding thicker metal like 1/4 steel or where apperance doesn't matter.
definately hold out for a mig welder. much more versitile and you'll be happier.

wanna see some cool stick welding pics...check out my motor mounts...nasty as hell

I like souldoubt's reply "good farm welder" that's a great way of putting it! I really want a mig welder...and learn to use it

what should you expect to pay for a decent (not extravagant) mig welder? I mean for doing things like motor mounts, body panels, exhaust...but nothing like welding a battle ship together.

[holy shit I spelled extravagant right the first time without my firefox built in spell checker!]

Probably in the neighborhood of $500-700 new. Search your local classifieds and Craigslist for used MIG machines. You can get them for pretty short money sometimes.
