    Oil on plugs

My car has stalled twice in the last two weeks. It didn't want to start up. Been getting bizzarre hesitation between 2-4k rpms and in 5th gear around 2K. Exactly one month ago I adjusted the valves, replaced the leaky valve cover gasket, and compression tested it.

Compression was good across the board. As usual. Two weeks ago I changed my oil to 5w30 cause winter is almost here. Today I check the oil and its 1 quart low. So I'm like wtf? No leaks anywhere. Not a drop or any seapage around VCG, oil pan, timing cover, dizzy seal, etc. Oil is going somewhere. Kind of tickles me because there is no smoke and engine runs super smooth. Except for the accleration hesitation between 2-4k.

So I pull the plugs and wires. #1 is okay, just the plug is old. #'s 2,3, and 4 are smothered(literally) in oil all the way down to the electrode tips. Wires are also soaked. My instant reaction is My piston rings are on their way out. I am compression testing it tonight or tommorrow. I suspect my rings are worn because of the seafoam I stuck in the crankcase in the begining of this year.

1/3rd cup and ran for way too long. Completely forgot about it. That is the only thing that makes sense. Even though my compression #s were perfect one month ago. Anyway. Has anyone here ever pulled the pistons with the cylinder head off, oil pan off,but the block still in the car? It sounds retarded, but I have done this b4. Just not on my CB7. I just want to know if anyone here has done it on a cb.

Assuming mine are even bad, Are there any piston rings on the market that are better than OEM? I might go a little bigger. Where the hell is Honda fan? ..... I planned a mild head build, but since the pistons are coming out might as well upgrade. I'll keep everyone posted with the compression #s .

it could be that the oil leakage on the plugs might be causing your misfire.

check your coolant for oil contamination also to rule out a blown head gasket. it's probably not that since you said it doesn't smoke.

perhaps you didn't get the correct tolerances on the valve adjustment? later.

possible bad rocker arm o rings. if too much oil in your tube seals, it can causr that misfire or hesitation that you are feeling.

Bout the tube seals Type G. I was under the impression that the lower tube seals going bad would not let oil into the combustion chamber? I did the compression test btw.

I've never gotten readings this high. I must be smoking crack. Its a different tester from last time. An actron. Maybe my tester is too el cheapo.

basically what it is doing, is that it is interfering with the spark plug wire and the sparkplug itself. What happens if you pull one of your sparkplug wires off while the engine is still running?? It will misfire.
oil cannot get into the combustion chamber because the sparkplugs are there. did you notice any oil on your spark plug socket when taking out the plugs??

hmm oil on the electrode AND plug wires are saturated, but good compression?? SOHC F22ax engine??

my immediate thoughts are leaking/bad valve stems and leaking rocker arm assembly O-rings.

I forgot to add the rocker arm o rings. just got home from work. 30 hours flagged day for me.

u mean add valve stems as a culprit? u stated rocker o-rings above. hahaha 30 hours is a good day... here at our dealer the other techs would call you a "gravy sucker!"

So what you are saying is that I lost 1 quart of oil in 2 weeks because of the rocker assembly o rings? Valve stem seals seem likely also. This engine is no where near 100k yet. *sigh* I guess I'll replace the orings. I 'll take it to work tomorrow and do leakdown test. thanx felllaz

obviously your engine is using a lot of oil. your rocker arm o rings won't do that. do a leak down test and go from there.

and Sean, I guess I did already mentioned rocker arm o rings huh. ha, and I make my hours by upsell. only had one 90k and sold rear mount and front brakes on that 03 accord L4, with spark plug and coolant flush, and another car which was also a gravy ticket t belt and the whole nine yards, and the rest were minors and intermediates.

                      EUGENE...

replace the seals ( sparkplug tube seals...valve steam seals...and replace your plugs and wires )

If you have oil on your plug wires.....mayne you know as good as I do...thats your sparkplug tube seals...now if the electrodes are soaked...( Valve steam seals )..

OH YEAH...I forgot to tell you....

remember when we seafoamed my CB in your garage?

when we left....when you was in front of me...and you took that left hand turn ..and got on it pretty hard?????...( white/blueish ) smoke puffed out for a few seconds.

                      ( valve stem seals )

                      replace em!

get some compressed air..to hold those valves up...or else you're gonna drop a valve into the compression chamber. :

call me mayne...I should be down sometime in the next week or so...

PM your addy...so I dont get lost coming to your crib

NOTE: when was the last time you checked your Balance shaft seals..cam seal....front main and checked the weaphole between the block and tranny ( underside ) for leakage from rear main???

^ yeah...I forgot all about that...assuming he already knew he has blueish smoke coming out of his assend under POT for a few seconds.

ASSUMING...since he didn't....I bounced back and remembered!

well I've been at it. Ran a second dry compression test. 200 across the board. The upper, lower tube seals and of course VCG have been replaced. I added another quart of oil and new spark plugs. Started the car and it smoked something fierce.

When I pull the plugs the first time the oil sank down into the chambers. After a while it cleared up. No more smoke.Took the car for a test drive, raced the engine. All that happy horse shit. Pulled the plugs and they are bone dry. Even the tips.

Also noticed something else. My PCV valve isn't rattling. So I'm replacing it also tonight. Just seems so weird. Especially since I've had to replace my VCG like 3 times already. I'm gonna comb my engine again for leaks. Next up is a leakdown test. I want to pinpoint this deal. iIf it fails the leak test I'll replace the valve seals. thanx fellaz.

no, if it fails, then you are gonna have to find out where it is leaking from. the rings, valve seals, valve seat??
