    JDM engines/trannies cleanliness

i was flittering about the JDM engine sites and Ebay and started wondering how do they get their engines and transmissions so gosh darn clean

i was on one site and was looking at a F22 that lokked as if it was cleaned with a toothbrush behind the pipe that goes from the water pump to the t-stat housing

    the thing looks brand new.

also any ideas on how long have some of these engines/trannies have been sitting

i checked the old threads and didn't find the answer i was looking for

Well most of them have under 50,000 miles to begin with. On top of that, the rest of the cleanliness comes from a power washer.

      2 words. Pressure washer.

The aluminum is usually mint because of the lack of road salt too. Pressure washer will not take off oxidation on the aluminum.

like everyone said, mileage is the factor. The seals and gaskets haven't accumulated any real wear either.

The engines shown on the sites are usually going to be very clean examples. You're not always looking at the exact engine that you'd be receiving.

I got my H22A from HMO back in 2003. It was nearly 10 years old when I got it. It was in nice condition in terms of cleanliness, but it was far from pristine. Not as nice as the picture, for sure!

On the day I brought mine but it wasn't as clean as it was in the pics. The second one the sir-s was a beauty. They power wash it and heat it up the after sonic waving the hard dirt off they use a polish machine.

The shit was an sir-spec unless the person who I sold the car to did some extra stuff to it or never took care of the motor.

the pics i saw of the F22 that i started this thread over looked as if the engine had barely 20,000 miles, in the pics i couldn't see any oxidation and even the corners were pristine

                    looks like it was polished

that is the one thing i do before I swap a motor is to powerwash the living daylights out of it and the engine bay, i hate trying to work through greasy dirt

thanks for the answers, they were what i was looking for

age still wears the seals, even more so sitting stagnant. my h22a was clean inside and out,but the seals on the bottom end were hard as rocks along with spark tube valve cover grommets. Ive replaced all seals and gaskets.

i figured if i buy one of those engines it would be prudent to change seals/gaskets/timing belt(s)/water pump/engine oil/oil filter etc. since the engine is out of the car

yea totally screwed me on a lexus v6 because the rear valve cover seal started to leak...after spending 22 hours replacing the motor in a single car garage, you think i want to spend another hour to do the valve cover?
