    Chirs190E16v : Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16v "Cosworth"

My name is chris and i'm a huge fan of 80's Mercedes.

This is my car a 1987 190E 2.3-16v (1 of 2000 made for the USA) on top of the car is a rare Evolution2 Bodykit one of 7 people in California with the bodykit on.

The car comes with a DOHC 16V made by Cosworth UK. The car came with hydraulic rear suspension, LSD, ram air box, 5 link rear end, race headers, oil cooler, gatag manual transmission (1st gear is down, 2nd is up and across) so when I drive its just a simple H pattern, and Recaro seats front and back.

Price in 1987 $43,000 not including the markup. Price in 2009 $4k to $5k

I bought the car that way from the last owner.

Yes i do not like the Yellow color and I'll paint it black and redo everything.

The 190E 16V is an amazing car to drive.

I spend more time working on the Benz than i do the accord

I guess I was long over due for an update but here it is. I spend a lot of my wrenching time with my Benz vs my Accord.

The subframe bushings are messed up in the back and required me to remove the whole rear subframe. Talk about spilling gasoline all over myself and all over the floor for 15 minutes.

Everything was my first time and learned as I went.

                Pressing new bushings at school.

I didn't want to cut corners so everything was replaced. Ball joints, bushings, bearings, tie rods, shocks and springs.

                Out came the front LCA.

Ordered a new custom suspension setup. The one thing I'm jealous about the honda crowd is the fact they can just go online or in a catalog and just order everything. Its a money game when it comes to parts for an old Mercedes. My suspension setup was a custom made setup and only 4 people from what i know have it.

                ^Height adjustment

^SADLY it didn't fit but the company found out and they called me and fixed it one week later.

^Needed to replace the front LCA bushings. Had to get them custom made in Thailand.

                  Time for paint

^5 Link setup in the rear

                  ^New arms

^Making sure the rear diff full lubed with new oil all around

                  ^Back in the car

Time to put the car back on the ground.

Car sat so long that the seals in the waterpump gave out and I had to replace it. Back to work.

I really like these cars. I was pretty excited to see that Wheeler Dealers did an episode on too.

By the way, I'm moving this thread to the "Other Automotive: Members' Rides" section.
My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

Everything came out and figured I'd make the engine bay look nice for a change

Long story short I had this car for 6 years and never drove it a lot due to so many issues i needed to fix. I took the car on its first, longest, and hardest drive I've ever done in it. I was amazed with how well the car handled and how much this car screams. Took it on a 80 mile twist mountain road and blew my motor mount. Just another thing to be changed.

The car itself is a DTM car called the Evolution 2. BMW and Mercedes had a huge battle back in the 80's

This is one badass old school European car, I'm a big fan of euros have had a c36 amg, e30 325i and a e46 lsb m3 so Euros are my favorite more than Japanese cars.
