I was into SHO's before I found my cb.

those yamaha engines in the SHOs have been boosted to 700+hp on stock internals. pretty sure the bottom end is as strong as anything ever made

rest of the car is a pain in the ass thoug, typical late 80s/early 90s ford engineering.

              like the SHO though
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

my friend had a '95 SHO a few years ago. i helped him swap out every LED on the dash/door switches to blue lol. he loved it, and raved about how great it is (compared to my wimpy accord, or so he said) and that its not bad like a ford because it has a Yamaha engine... until it fell apart into pieces within just a couple years. interior, exterior, and engine external components just about all completely fell apart, it was leaking everything from everywhere and the transmission was dying.

soooooo.... he junked it, and bought an 09 accord. guess he wised up.

not to be a downer though lol, enjoy the car, it appears to be pretty clean.

From what I recall about those cars, wasn't the automatic more powerful or had more torque than the 5-speed version to compensate for the acceleration loss due to the automatic?

This one seems in rough shape cosmetically, but I'm sure you'll be able to get it back in shape. Is there rust in the engine bay in front of the strut tower?

Ok heres a little history. Ford was going to make a mid engine sports car and had yamaha build an engine for it. The car got ditched and ford had all these engines so they decided hey lets put them in the taurus beef up the suspension, give it some more options and compete with BMW. So they did. For $7000 less than the base 525i you could get a SHO with a 220hp yamaha engine that was way ahead of its time. Plus it could out run the higher end 5 series of its time. People loved the car because it handled well and for its time its was fast. The manual did 0-60 in 6.6sec and the 1/4mile in 15.2sec. This is my third SHO. Ive never had any major problems. Most of the problems people have with them is because of neglect and being beaten on. The motors in the cars are amazing. Most go over 200k with no problem and some have gone 300k because the motor was designed and built from the ground up by yamaha. The V8 in the newer ones was not. The heads were build by yamaha but the block was made by ford. Thats what the big deal is with these cars. They were just way ahead of there time and people loved them and some people still do. Also the SHO is faster than some mustangs lol.

I love the older ones too. The gen before these were awesome too.

They are Taurus forums out there, as im sure youre probably on one, this being your 3rd one.

Looks like it just needs a little TLC and itll be good to go. How many miles does it have?

Yup the automatic had a 3.2 instead of a 3.0 it had the same horsepower but had more torque so the automatic wasn't much slower than the 5spd. Only about half a second to 60 and in the quarter mile. The body needs some work but theres almost no rust just on the passenger side quarter panel. Mechanically its perfect so the body is a small price to pay.

There really fun to drive. The handling is not as good as the accord obviously lol but its still extremely nimble for such a big car. It really accels on the highway the cars got a ton of top end pull. After driving the accord getting in the sho is like driving a old challenger. Its a boat but it moves when you put your foot down.

Check out this video it will give everyone an idea on what the cars like.
