ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

Getting paint stripper on valve stems...

So I'm going to be painting my wheels, leaving the tires on. Using Mar Hyde's aircraft stripper, spray kind. Just wondering if it would harm the valve stems if some of the stripper got on them....

It will make the rubber soft and deteriorate eventually.

Just cover the stem with masking tape. That's what I did.

Alright, thanks. With that Mar Hyde, do you really have to scrape it off, or does it just rinse off with the hose?

make sure to put some 3xd5' cars all around between the tire and rim so you dont get any on the tires. Aircraft stripper's performance varies from wheel to wheel, you might get a wheel with tougher paint and clear than another that would make you have to scrape it off or just hose. Make sure to not do it in the cold as I hear it doesnt work that well in that condition.

        goood luck

Newspaper won't work? The index card idea sounds pretty cool...might just do that anyways. Also thinking of painting the calipers while the wheels are off. Did my Accord's red...might do these gold or...hmmm, not sure.

I use the aircraft stripper that you brush on, its messier but it works great cuz you can brush it on thick. Just wear gloves and a long sleeved shirt cuz that stuff hurts like hell if it gets on your skin.

I use a wire brush on wheels to scrub the lifted paint off. I think a metal putty would gouge the aluminum.

yeah DO NOT get any stuff on your skin, paint stripper is tougher and more corrosive than brake fluid, it really stings when you even get drops of it on your skin, so plan accordingly for doing this.

What type of gloves would you say...vinyl? I don't want the aircraft stripper to melt the gloves LOL, so I'm not sure which ones to use...

Also, would you recommend a paint mask as well?

                    yeah...newspaper isn't a very good idea.

                    index cards are much stronger.

I'm thinking vinyl gloves will be OK. I can just get some from work. Not like I'm going to get it all over my hand spraying it and leaving the glove on. Also, what type of wire brush are you using...metal or stiff plastic?

I used the rattle can aircraft coat remover. used 2 sets of vinyl gloves (double gloved) and it went through both of them. I would suggest going with the index card idea around the rim and masking tape. It WILL weaken the valve stem fairly well.

I'm going to wrap the valve stem with a lot of masking tape and use the index cards around the wheel. Not sure what gloves I'll use...maybe some mechanics gloves. Don't want to ruin them though. Maybe I'll go to the store and just get some leather gloves or something.

yeah i used the aircraft stripper in a can and it worked great only problem is that you have to hurry up and take the old paint off or else it will stick bakc on the rim if you leave it there for too long. and the index cards work great also so good luck man
