ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Help me figure out if I need to replace my valve cover gasket and head gasket.

Hello everyone, Ive been on this forum for awhile, but its been a few years since I have actually posted anything, so i thought I would start fresh.

I own a 1992 Honda Accord LX that i purchased from my father in 2014. He told me when he sold it to me it had a cracked head gasket. I drove it for about a year or so, then on February 14 2015 it broke down bad. Alternator and battery died while driving down the road. I am in the midst of replacing the alternator now, but I know i have to get that head gasket fixed. My issue is I'm not entirely sure that it needs to be replaced. The only symptoms im getting is it overheats easy and it looses coolant pretty quickly. Id like some advice from you guys as to whether you think thats a head gasket or something else.

Also, its pretty low on oil and one of the valve cover bolts has oil pooled up around it. Also the driver side of the engine compartment has a good bit of oil on it. I thought maybe it was the valve cover gasket, but its not leaking anywhere near the gasket seal itself. Honestly, to me it looks like someone ran it with the oil cap off. I dont know enough about it to diagnose it myself so hopefully you guys can help me. Thanks in advance and i look forward to hearing from yall.

If it loses coolant quickly and it doesnt leak coolant it is most likely the issue is a head gasket. It could be a bad radiator cap or hoses and the coolant is escaping as steam.

Clean the oil and then see if it still leaks.
sold! But here's my build thread for those interested.

Well it does leak a fairly decent amount near the rear of the engine.

It already sounds like a bad head gasket already gone bad. When the head gasket goes bad/cracks it starts losing coolant. Especially burning it. And with just water in there it only evaporates.

I'd suggest you do a head gasket replacement. You will have to resurface the head before installing new head gasket...

First and foremost, I would do a compression test first. If comorssion is low and you have all these symptoms then head gasket is the culprit here...

I have no idea how to do a compression test. I was just hoping it wasnt a head gasket since I'm not getting coolant in my oil or vice versa

It's losing coolant at the rear?

It could be IACV lines, heater core, or heater hoses. Can you pinpoint where exactly?

It's hard to get a picture of it but I think there's some kind of hose leaking in the back under the fuel injection.

Jack it up and look at it from underneath
