ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Car not reading speed correct

I picked up a 93 two door the other day. Loving having a cb7 again.

On my way to work today I noticed my speed was wrong. I was easily going 75+ but my speedometer said I was going about 50.

    What could be the issue?
Does anyone else have a monthly budget of 10mm sockets or is it just me?

VSS (vehicle speed sensor) I would guess. Maybe missing teeth or lack of fluid. or the cluster is on it's way out but I doubt it. Does it work correctly at low speeds? Does it ever stop working ?

It's far more accurate at low speeds. The speedometer won't go much past 50ish.

Ya, check out the VSS I'd say.

I will be checking it out. But here is where things get strange. On my way home it was reading right.

So one way or another you just need to inspect the items that give you speed readings. VSS, wiring, ECU, and gauge cluster. Not sure if you are an auto or manual but the VSS is gear driven. So inspecting the VSS gear itself should be done fist. I believe it's two bolts... easy to remove. Got a manual ¿

Something to consider is tire size too. I have the hunch that mine is off since I run 195/50/15 and the total diameter could be off just enough to cause it especially since I've changed the sensor and the speed still reads off the same mph.

I'm running oem wheels so that should be the issue. It's an automatic. I'll be going to my local scrap yard this weekend and I'll pull a unit from a car. Looks easy enough to remove assuming I have enough extensions.

If it comes down to it, the speedometer itself can be changed out of the cluster so you can retain your correct odometer. I'm pretty sure the odometer works off the same speed signal, so if the odo is reading correctly, it may be the speedometer.

Ya, remove the air intake tube and you'll be good.
