Windshield Wiper Fluid / Resevoir

So i bought my car and luckily i haven't had the need to use my windshield wipers fluid that much. So i started thinking -- Snow is coming soon and i will need to use it. I poured wiper fluid [blue thing] into the tank and tested. Water came out of 1 of the sprays strong [driver side] and from passenger a little weak. I go to my car and i see the fluid literally dropping to the ground.

Question: is it hard to replace the tank and cables or should i bring it to the dealer?

if its easy, could someone pretty please make it a DIY?????

its easy to replace. If you remove the bumper, its 3 bolts to remove the bottle.

no it isnt hard to replace. The tank is probably rotted through or cracked...pull your bumper and check the tank....then check your lines....its all pretty much simple setup.

I think it would be harder for one of us to make a DIY then for you to just replace...since none of ours are needing replaced....although if i had the time id pull it all apart and take pics but i dont.

If you do this though, you should take pics and make a DIY so the next person that comes along doesnt need to ask for someone to make a DIY yanno??? just a thought!

yeah man, I had to do this on my last accord.....super easy. you don't even have to remove the bumper to do it. I didn't. Jack the car up a few inches to make it easier and its 3 bolts and the whole unit pops out. And I bought the reservoir and pump for 35 buck brand new from a place called sunrise jap. auto near where I live. The dealer quoted me 110 just for the parts and 1.5 hour labor! Ridiculous. Do it yourself, and if you take pictures and do a DIY you'll get some mad props for a new poster. I wish I had taken pictures of everything I did before I found this site....would have helped as a contributor

Also, use pressurized air to blow debris from your lines. Just be careful not to disconnect them since some spots are difficult to get to. The nozzles can clog rather easily.

i THINK one is kinda clogged, so i will have to blow air into it.

i just removed my bumper to do my headlights, so i rather not have to go thru that again. If jacking my car would be easy, i'll jack it and remove the 3 bolts. The 3bolts are holding down the tank or the housing for the tank? I guess i'll take pics of before and of my leakage and hopefully i can do it myself. If i do, expect a DIY.

anyways, onto the techs. Do i just stop at auto zone/pep boys and buy a new tank?? or should i remove my tank first. I guess i can always stop at a junk yard and remove one of their tanks and see their quality [depending how much a new one is]. I believe is the tank, cuz i filled it, didnt use it and the whole shit was drained in a few days.

Where is the fluid dripping from? You might just have a loose-fitting hose that isn't connected securely.

It's quite possible or maybe a hose is split open. I'd take the bumper off first and inspect what's wrong. If you have fender liners, then you won't just jack up the car and remove 3 bolts, you'll have to peel back the liner, which in turn would prob. crack it or crease it. IMHO I'd just remove the bumper, it's pretty easy and then you will have room to inspect everything and go through the whole system. Then replace or fix what's necessary

And also remove both nozzles and remove the crud that's in there. You can also aim the nozzles by sticking a paper clip or pin in the hole and turning it like a ball joint to get it just right.

I would say to check the hoses first. If it's spraying strong from the driver's side, check the line to the pass. side. Also, the flex hose on the hood hinge is a common weak spot...

Does the resevoir empty out immediately? When I first got my car and filled it up, it immediately all dumped out on the ground. Little did i know that when the resevoir gets full, it just spills the water out. As far as the nozzles, trying having someone spray them and cover the side that sprays with your finger, that way all the pressure goes to the clogged side and hopefully loosen it up.

Well...for some strange reason, they thought it'd be a good idea to make the reservoir in three pieces. I didn't know that when I started taking things apart to fix the leak.

There's the big bottom part, then the top piece where you fill, then a tube that connects them. I just needed to push that middle tube back into the bottom piece.
Try that before dismantling everything. :P

sorry guys, i was on vacation in LAS VEGAS and just got back.

i'll have to refill it and see if it empties without me "requesting" for liquid, cuz i think it just empties automatically. I think it might be both tank and a line, cuz i know it saw liquid ontop after i requested some and a lot on the bottom. i'll fill and take pics to show [ just gotta empty the digi card ;-)]
