Just buy a whole bunch and return what you don't use. It'd say at least 5 cans. Buy 8 and see what you get

You really dont wanna do that ...
Primer is gonna help rust along .. it absorbs moisture .. and should be painted
just as soon as its ready ..
If you're gonna spray the primer .. why not go all the way .. get another dozen cans
of krylon in your closest color, so it wont look so bad in a few months ..

I primered my car with spray paint primer, took me about 20 cans. I suggest you just go rent a sprayer and buy the paint from a real paint store. The result will look far better and in the long run be cheaper anyway. Plus, spray can paint jobs will ALWAYS turn out blotchy, simply because the cans aren't always the same mixture of colors.

Word.. my car was a 400 dollar special at maaco. I didnt want to spend 1500 for a real paint job.. and still wouldnt. But people are quite suprized when they know its a maaco job. If you look real close.. you can see some places where the just kinda got lazy. But for 400 bux, it was a steal.
But yeah, if you really wanna DIY, just rent/buy a spraygun and compressor, and do it that way. An automotive paint store will typically have paint that is kinda like the economy stuff (used for busses, trucks, signs, commercial stuff where its all one coat(clear is not needed), all you need is the activator. Where if you get just a typical automotive base/clear paint, you will have to get the clear, which typically uses hardener and activator. A good clear is also about the same price as the paint. Stuff aint cheap ( usually at least $150/gallon).
Edit.. metallic/pearl costs more money.. white is cheapest, red is most expensive. Black is somewhat middle of the road.Last edited by aero; 06-08-2005, 07:38 PM.

you shouldn't and you'll regret it. may cost less, BUT seriously, why cheap out on something like this ? just save up the extra funds and have it done right. although i say NO to Maaco, their prices aren't bad if you just want the car painted...ummm, lets say, good
eh, just don't go the spray can route, it'll look hideous.5.6L V8 32V DOHC

maybe it depends on whos spraying the car. TRUE... going to the professionals IS best, but im primering my car with the rattle can and it actually looks fine. You guys can judge it as soon as im done. The preparation before the primering is what matters most in my opinion. If you sand it all messed up, the results will be messed up. And you cant be lazy and rush things about it. You need a lot of tme to do this kinda work. But im looking for the flat black look. Stealth mode
